Fire -- or Possibly an Explosion Due to a Bomb -- Demolishes Iranian Nuclear Centrifuge Site
Via John Sexton, it had previously been speculated that a fire had been engineered by some malware inserted into their centrifuge control programs. Something that would cause the things to spin out of control.
But now it looks like this was a major explosion, something that looks too big to have been caused by mere computer code. Iran suspects it was a bomb.
Sexton notes that Iran says they know who's responsible. They almost surely suspect Israel -- but their antisemitism won't let them admit Israel rocked their wigs back.
The good news is that this one strike is likely to set back the Iranian nuclear program by at least a year, maybe several. Iran has frequently threatened to spin up the centrifuges if it doesn’t get its way on the nuclear deal, now it can’t build any more centrifuges for a while. The regime can still pose a threat around the world but between the recent spate of incidents like this one, the death of Gen. Soleimani and the pandemic, Iran is looking a lot more vulnerable than it was two years ago.
Oh, well.
Iran is still suffering further mysterious explosions:
