Media Continues Grappling With Question of How to Bury Tara Reade Allegations While Still Pretending to be Journalists

The Washington Post makes a couple of easy "demands" -- that Joe Biden actually answer whether he raped a woman instead of letting his female surrogates spin on his behalf, and that he open up his records for examination.

Records which he has surely purged at least 25 years ago.

Democrats and the alleged "advocacy groups" for women are also pretending they really care about the issue they've spent five years shrieking that they really care about.

Finally, several of the womens'groups prepared a public letter that praised Mr. Biden’s work as an "outspoken champion for survivors of sexual violence" but also pushed him to address the allegation from Tara Reade, a former aide who worked in Mr. Biden’s Senate office in the early 1990s.

Then Mr. Biden’s team heard about the advocates’ effort. According to people involved in the discussions, the group put the letter on hold as it began pressuring Biden advisers to push the candidate to make a statement himself before the end of April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Along with liberal organizers, they urged him to acknowledge the importance of survivors and the need for systemic change around issues of sexism and assault.

Nearly two weeks later, Mr. Biden and his campaign have yet to make that statement, and the advocates have not released their letter. The Biden campaign has said little publicly beyond saying that women deserve to be heard and insisting that the allegation is not true; privately, Biden advisers have circulated talking points urging supporters to deny that the incident occurred.

As two more women have come forward to corroborate part of Ms. Reade's allegation, the Biden campaign is facing attacks from the right and increasing pressure from the left to address the issue. And liberal activists find themselves in a tense standoff with a candidate they want to support but who they say has made little attempt to show leadership on an issue that resonates deeply with their party's base.

Don't read too much into these posturings, because that's all they are.

They're going to continue defending this senile rapist to their last breath.

But the problem is that his current strategy makes them look like unspeakable hacks and hypocrites.

They are that, of course, and proudly. But they don't like it being this obvious.

All they're really demanding is that Biden say "This woman is a liar, don't believe her" so they can echo "This woman is a liar, that's why we don't believe her." They just want Biden to throw them any help at all so that they don't look quite as bad as they do now.

All that's happening now is that the media are telling Biden, publicly, that the previous Biden/Media strategy of just pretending this story doesn't exist is not working and will not hold. The Media isn't changing its spots -- it's just asking its boss the DNC for a new strategy or for permission to implement their own strategies.

If you have any doubts about that -- well, ultrahack Ben Smith is among the people supposedly suddenly concerned about Democrat rape.

They're not concerned about Democrat Rape. They're concerned about being forced to admit they're not concerned about Democrat Rape, that's all.

Meanwhile, here's an update on how many times the media has actually asked Joe Biden about the credibly-alleged rape.

Spoiler alert: It's still zero.

Joe Biden has now done 19 interviews spanning nearly 4 hours in the 5 weeks since March 24, the day a former staffer in his U.S. Senate office came forward to accuse him of sexual assault. None of the 142 questions asked by his interviewers have been on the allegations.

Biden, from a studio in the basement of his Delaware home, has been interviewed by reporters from major networks including CNN and MSNBC, as well as local stations across the country since Tara Reade's allegation was reported by the Intercept in March. Biden has still not publicly commented on the accusation from Reade, who says the then-senator pinned her against a wall and penetrated her with his fingers in 1993 when she was a staff assistant in his office.

Seems to me that if the media thinks that Biden should answer questions about this, they could, you know, ask Biden some questions about that.

But they don't want to -- he might be unprepared for that and flub the answer.

Plus, they'd be attacked by their fellow lunatic liberals for practicing something concocted to look like journalism.

So they want Biden to repeat a scripted, practiced, taped and edited statement that they can use as his answer.

Or to give them permission to ask him about it.
