THE QUOTES OF THE DAY

Quote I

"I want to put a big asterisk there which is that John Durham has a very serious reputation, and I don’t think that at this point that decision, he thinks that we've reached a threshold that we can open a criminal investigation. My guess, based on his reputation, is that was based on facts. We don’t know what that criminal aspect is , it could be a leak investigation it could be something to do with classified information. I just think we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about Durham and that decision." Jonathan Swan

Quote II

“Our leaders must reflect the glue that holds us together,”

“They can’t be people who lie all the time. They just can’t. And I hope people see that’s true whether they are Republicans or Democrats.”

Wallace then asked him, “What if he [Trump] wins again? Will you still believe that?”

Comey replied, “I will be, from my new home in New Zealand. I will still believe in America.” James Comey

Quote III

“The Clintons — they’ve got to go away. I’m saying this a year out. They can’t be at the convention. Maybe on the video, waving or something, but I’m serious.” Bill Maher

Quote IV

The battle against hunger and malnutrition will not end as long as the logic of the market prevails and profit is sought at any cost, with the result that food is relegated to a mere commercial product subject to financial speculation and with little regard for its cultural, social and indeed symbolic importance….It is a cruel, unjust and paradoxical reality that, today, there is food for everyone and yet not everyone has access to it, and that in some areas of the world food is wasted, discarded and consumed in excess. To escape from this spiral, we need to promote economic institutions and social initiatives which can give the poor regular access to basic resources. Pope Francis

Quote V

“The reason to notify the ‘gang of eight’ is more important when things go wrong,”

“Had something gone wrong, it’s to the administration’s advantage to be able to say ‘we informed Congress, they were aware of the risks,’”Rep. Adam Schiff

Quote VI

“These are difficult calls,” “But a society as industrious and entrepreneurial and innovative as ours should not have to face a choice between public safety and public blackouts. We can do both together. And that is what path we are on.” Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA)

Hey geniuses! Feel free to pay that $250,000 bill for a worthless degree.

Ah, what are the future Extinction Rebellion members in New Mexico supposed to do? Teens who consider themselves to be climate activists are now on the horns of a dilemma. After Democrats managed to flip the state blue in the last elections, their new liberal governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, began pushing through all sorts of proposals. In addition to gun control and marijuana decriminalization, Grisham decided that all of the students in the state should get a free education at both two and four-year state colleges. What’s not to like, right?

Well, according to some teen activists, there’s still a problem. You see, over the past nine years, the fracking boom in New Mexico has turned it into the third largest oil and gas producer in the country, behind only Texas and Alaska. And taxes from all of that energy production have left the state fat with cash to spend on things like public education. That’s how Grisham is able to float plans like the free tuition scheme. But some of these students think it would be hypocritical to take the free money if it’s got oil and gas stains on it. (NBC News)

Snot nosed little bastards.

Australia. Cops can shoot to kill. Ordinary John Q citizen cannot possess a firearm.

Police in the Australian state of Victoria have been authorised to shoot and kill drivers who deliberately or recklessly risk the lives of the public as part of a new hostile vehicle policy.

The order inserted in the police manual from Monday, states officers must take decisive action that ranges from stationary blockades to use of lethal force to save lives in fleeing driver situations.

Options will include ramming vehicles, using stop sticks, creating blockades using police cars, commandeering heavy commercial vehicles, including garbage trucks and - as a last resort - shooting the driver.

Think your job is tough? This job appears to be very very tough.

Two workers on a swing-stage platform on the east side of Stantec Tower were left dangling as high winds descended on downtown Edmonton Friday afternoon.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Service crews responded to the scene just before 1 p.m. to perform a high angle rescue. Fire rescue officials weren’t entirely sure why the two were up there but they believe it had something to do with maintenance work.

The area between the Stantec Tower and Edmonton Tower was closed off as emergency crews attended the scene.

A fire rescue spokesperson said one of the two was lowered to the ground and was looked after by EMS. The second worker was successfully rescued just before 2 p.m.

A video posted to social media Friday afternoon shows a platform swaying in the wind before crashing into the side of Stantec Tower, breaking a window and leaving one man dangling from the platform.

At least 74 people are dead and more than 3,000 are injured, following a weekend of anti-government protests across Iraq. Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Baghdad for three consecutive days to protest unemployment, corruption, and a lack of public services.

The protests escalated after the government barred demonstrators from gathering in the city’s popular Tahrir Square. Demonstrators built barricades to occupy the plaza, while police were reportedly ordered to contain the situation using “all necessary measures.” Security forces threw tear gas canisters as a result, while protesters held metal sheets to block police.

Just leave already. The people have spoken. The EU approves Brexit delay.

Following reports that the Lib Dems and SNP are preparing to support Boris Johnson's bid to hold new elections in December, leaders of the EU27 have apparently overcome their doubts about approving another extension of Article 50 (France's Emmanuel Macron was reportedly dragging his feet, just like he did the last time around).

In a Monday morning tweet, EU Council President Donald Tusk announced that the leaders of the EU would accept Johnson's request (made under legal duress) for another Brexit "flextension" until Jan. 31, 2020. The decision, Tusk said, will be "formalized" by a written procedure, which means that EU leaders will not need to hold a summit in Brussels to sign off.

5 kids and single? You're either nuts or Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Lamont Thomas has fostered more than 30 children. On Thursday, he became a father of 12 when he adopted Zendaya, Jamel, Nakia, Major, and Michaela.

The children had been separated for more than a year-and-a-half and had spent time in four different homes in four different cities before Thomas swooped in two years ago and took them in as foster children.

"I fought for close to two and a half years just to be able to get them together, and we won, we got it," Thomas said. "I wanted to be the difference, make a difference by being a difference for these youth."
