Conservatism, Inc.: Free Beacon Fires Reporter Bill Gertz Over Undisclosed Financial Arrangement With an Individual He Also Covered

If you don't think this goes on a fair amount in Conservatism, Inc., you're naive.

The Washington Free Beacon recently learned that senior editor Bill Gertz entered into a previously undisclosed financial transaction with an individual or an affiliate of that individual whom Mr. Gertz had covered in some of his reporting.

It is not yet reported on who the "individual or associate of an individual" Gertz had a financial arrangement with. I guess one thing someone could do is just randomly look up people that Gertz frequently covered, such as Guo Wengui, a Chinese "dissident," accused of actually being a spy for the Chinese government masquerading as a dissident.

That disclaimer runs on this story, too.

It's not on all stories yet. But they seem to be putting it up first on stories involving Guo Wenghui.

Too bad. I think I liked Bill Gertz for the most part.

But the Venn overlap between "conservative journalists" and "political operatives being paid by high-dollar clients for favorable coverage that advances their interests" would be as fat as Jonah Goldberg's tummy tum-tum.
