Tonight's ONT Called In Sick
I like the way this guy thinks:
Basketball
Related: Hockey. I saw some people last night complaining about not being able to watch the Avs game. You didn't miss much, the defense was sloppy, they didn't contest the blue line and on two separate occasions a cross-ice pass went right through three, count 'em, three defenders who just kinda waived their sticks at the puck before it was buried for a goal. All in all a very forgettable night.
However, if you want to never miss a game, I recommend the NHL ap. $150/year, and it allows me to watch every single NHL game (if I wanted to). As an east coast US fan of a western Canadian team, it's the only way that I'd get to see my team play at all. Best of all, it supports Chromecast, so I just cast the games to the TV and watch in high def. Blackout rules may apply, I dunno, but a VPN will get you around that little problem. You're welcome.
Lucky Man
Bernie Sanders had a heart attack. He's very, very lucky that his “Medicare for all” scheme hasn't been implimented, or he might not have gotten any care (beyond palliative) at all. Dr. Jane Orient: Unclear if 78-Year-Old Bernie Sanders Gets Stents Under Medicare for All. I wish no harm on Bernie at all, but the evil part of me almost wishes he had had his heart attack in Havana. It wouldda served him right.
If You Build It, They Will Come
Pokémon GO also hit 50 million users in 19 days. From this we can conclude that humans like sex and to chase little imaginary creatures around. If someone makes a game where you walk (I typoed this at first, and the suggested correction was “wank”. My spell checker has a better sense of humor than I do) around and throw balls at imaginary creatures fucking, the world will grind to a halt.
Climate Change, Of Course
It's Gotten Too Hot for Outdoor Baseball in Texas. Guess why it's hot in Texas in the summertime. Go on, guess. I gave you a hint up above.
Got it in one. I will give the author credit, however. He does acknowledge the urban heat sink problem, but he doesn't come back to it, and since he's talking the increase of about a degree average in the stadium temp over 25 years, in an area that has massively urbanized during that time, I'm thinking that that might be a better place to look for answers.
In addition to that, might I point out that retractable roof stadiums just weren't really a thing when The Ballpark at Arlington was built, and domes were very much out of fashion at the time, everyone was trying to replicate Oriole Park. In the mid 90s they had retractable roofs in Toronto and Montreal (ironically to keep out winter cold rather than summer heat) and there was a very old one in Pittsburgh IIRC. That's it. Since then RR tech has improved greatly, Arlington IS hot (it was hot in 1994), so the owners have decided to upgrade. It's not a sign of the apocalypse, sheesh.

I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying.
Well OK. Maybe a little. Might be dust.

25 Countries That Hate Americans
In addition to things you'd expect, like Iran and China, it also lists countries such as Canada. Donald Trump is given as a reason for probably half of them. In addition, this site has garbage such as this:
Yeah, how terrible it is that we're wealthy and prosperous, and can allow our citizen a wide range of choices in the marketplace.
My eyes rolled so far back that they fell out of my head.
I Miss Andrew Breitbart
Righteous indignation (strong language):
Miscellaneous
A Time-Travel Trip Down Video Store Memory Lane Ahh, the good old days. I remember even further back, to the 1980s where you had to choose between VHS and Beta, and there was usually a curtained-off area at the back of the store, with embarrassed people slinking in and out...
EASTWOOD’S ‘RICHARD JEWELL’ PUNCHES FAKE NEWS IN THE NOSE I'm eager to see this one.
The Gandhi Nobody Knows Not quite the saint presented by the history books. In fact, through WWWI, he was a pretty gung-ho soldier.
