With Rich White Liberals Rebelling and Threatening to Flee the City, Bill DiBlasio Stars Making Conciliatory Notes About Retreating From His Threat to Desegregate the School System By Ending Competitive-Testing for Elite Schools

For years, New York City has essentially maintained two parallel public school systems.

A group of selective schools and programs geared to students labeled gifted and talented is filled mostly with white and Asian children. The rest of the system is open to all students and is predominantly black and Hispanic.

Now, a high-level panel appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio is recommending that the city do away with most of these programs in an effort to desegregate the system, which has 1.1 million students and is by far the largest in the country.

He risks alienating tens of thousands of mostly white and Asian families who rely on the shadow system of gifted programs and selective schools; if a substantial number of those families leave the system, it would be next to impossible to achieve integration.

You should be aware that it is this program that keeps a large number of well-to-do but not super-rich New York city taxpayers in the city. without this program, they'd either have to send their kids to the terrible regular New York schools or pay exorbitantly for private schools.

I have friends who are in this situation. They are liberal and rich. They are proud that they're sending their kids to public, not private, schools.

Partly for political reasons (liberals love government programs), and also for financial reasons.

Private school is very, very expensive in New York City.

If the selective school system is dismantled, the other alternative, which wealthy city-proud New Yorkers don't want to do, is to move to a NYC suburb with good schools. They don't want to do that, but if you give them the choice of moving, or putting their kids into a nightmare world, or making them pay $100,000 per year for private school, they start making peace with the idea of being a suburban family.

Well, Bill DiBlasio can't have his rich white liberal supporters fleeing the city and taking their tax base with them.

So he's suddenly not super-confident about ending all competitive entry schools.

Rich White New York City Liberals are #WokeAF, but they don't want their kids mixing with the commoners.

I mean, #Wokeness has its limits.

Mayor Bill de Blasio indicated for the first time Wednesday that he's open to keeping the admissions tests for the city's elite public high schools, in a major departure from his previous position that the exams must be eliminated to diversify the student bodies.

"The attempt we made to address it was just not effective and we have to come to grips with that and I have to take responsibility for that," the mayor told a group of ethnic and community reporters at a City Hall roundtable.

De Blasio said he believes that removing the test is "the single best way to resolve" the disproportionate rate of whites and Asians at leading city schools, such as Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan.

But, he admitted, "Some would argue there's a way to do it while keeping the test and you have to have that dialogue too."

Flashback: Ultra-liberal Samantha Bee's ultra-liberal husband was a ringleader in fighting to keep a "unwanted" children out of their very white Upper West Side school.

He also told his other Rich White Parents not to talk to the press, lest they portray these rich white ultraprogs as racial hypocrites or something.

Jones has three children with former "Daily Show" correspondent Samantha Bee. He went on to complain about what he called "rhetoric" from some parents that, he thought, suggested those opposing the move are "terrified" of having their school relocate to a building near a housing project. He called that characterization, "dishonest at best and slanderous at worst."

"So I urge you A, to stop talking to the press," he continued. "This is a private matter, I think, from our community. This story doesn't exist without your quotes."

This is the sort of thing I have in mind when I say I'm strongly, strongly inclined to start forcing white liberals to live with the consequences of their choices, instead of permitting them Soviet-style Special Exceptions for Friends of the Inner Party.
