Morning Rant - Guest Ranter Edition [Weasel]

Last week a collection of misfits and imbeciles gathered on stage to "debate" one another for the Democratic Party presidential nomination. There is little evidence to suggest an even remotely intelligent exchange took place, but rather all indications are it was simply predictable in the extreme; with candidates staking increasingly absurd positions in an effort to appeal to a progressively smaller wedge of voters on the leftmost edge of reality. They were, as we have come to expect, completely supported by a complicit media who failed to provide even a token examination of the candidates on the issues.

Fast forward to Portland over the weekend, where an Antifa mob assaulted a number of people, injuring several seriously. No one seems able to offer a coherent explanation of exactly what Antifa represents, other than the militant wing of a radicalized left hiding behind masks and hoodies and looking for a fight. Although the police knew the potential for trouble existed and were present in number, they generally remained passive during what eventually became a riot, and only a handful of arrests were made. Some reports suggest the police have conflicting and inconsistent operational orders from the mayor, who is also the police commissioner for the city, and a raving liberal democrat who has come under frequent criticism from the police union and others for his politicization of the police department.

The same candidates who claimed moral superiority during a debate clearly speak a different language to a deranged mob which is only too happy to find a target and pounce. Where are the candidates who earlier in the week waved their fingers in the camera and lectured on inclusion, respect and human dignity on the civil unrest a few days later in Portland? How many of the now more than twenty candidates have condemned the actions of Antifa in general or in Portland last weekend in particular? How many of the legacy networks have reported on the matter, at all?

Andy Ngo was attacked and hospitalized ostensibly for his political views and past reporting on Antifa, while peacefully recording video of the civil disorder - but it could have just as easily been any conservative on the street that day. As you reflect on the way things in our society are shaping up for the days to come, remember these are the good old days.
