Ford v. Ferrari, a movie about the Ford company's plan to build a car and assemble a team that could challenge Ferrari's dominance in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, in 1966.
If you're interested, but you don't know much about auto history, don't look up the results -- it's a spoiler, which would be worth keeping unspoiled for the movie.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is an endurance/efficiency race which takes, yes, 24 hours of continuous driving. 24 hours of continuous driving by the car; two men share driving shifts. The race is won according to whatever car logs the most distance during the 24 hours.
The race is run on a very long loop consisting of some actual dedicated/private racetrack and mostly public roads and highways repurposed for the weekend as race course roads.
Winners log about 5000 km of distance in a race. Of 60 entrants, 40 or so cars actually finish the race.
It will be run this year in a couple of weeks -- June 15-16.
