Marvel Studios Bets Big On Getting #Woke

Marvel Comics destroyed itself beginning in 2014 by getting woke and going broke, and it appears that the completely-separate movie studio called "Marvel" will follow its comic book forerunner into the grave.

Marvel Studios knows that Marvel comics has lost readership every years since the new #Woke era, but I guess these ideologues that, as with socialism, the only problem is that the right people haven't implemented the #Woke Marvel Agenda yet.

Phase II [sic -- they mean Phase IV] of the Marvel comic book cinematic universe is going to involve a few less of our classic superheros in favor of a bold new array of diverse and inclusive characters. Yes, Marvel's going a lot more ethnic, and a lot more gay because what's cooler than finding out that your new favorite Avenger enjoys his skintight latex suit for far more than just crime-fighting purposes?

Nerd culture outlet The Mary Sue wrote that, "Marvel head Kevin Feige is looking towards the bold, inclusive future of the brand," that includes all sorts of LGBTQ and "body-positive" characters.

Little spoiler for Endgame: Grace Randolph says they "opened the door" for Captain Marvel to be a lesbian. Now, she's what some have called a "pseudo-lesbian" already in the comics-- she has all the traits and fashions you'd associate with a stereotypical lesbian, and she has no interest whatsoever in men, but Marvel comics has been too timid to just pull the trigger and say "Yeah, she's our version of a very stereotypical 1980s lesbian."

But I guess the new movie loosens up the pull on that trigger a little bit.

Marvel is already in pre-production on another film, The Eternals, starring Angelina Jolie, and super lefty Kumail Nanjiani. Feige's ideas for finding something "really different and special" involve wrangling up "a gay Asian male lead in what will be their first openly gay character." Oh, and the film also sports its first-ever woman of color director in Chloe Zhao.

But that's not all. Fat acceptance and body positivity heroes are on the docket as well. Now, that's more like it! Feige acknowledged that "traditionally" comic book heroes have "Iconic mythic proportions," as do some of the actors and actresses in the business. Though this had been the trope, he admitted that "yes" there will be a slate of everyman heroes that represent "real bodies" and that they will be introduced "perhaps sooner than you'd think."

Great. Can't wait for the Healthy-At-Any-Size heroines.

Meanwhile, Kevin Feige doesn't merely accept that Captain America actor Chris Evans is an obnoxious SJW who goes out of his way to alienate half of Maverl's audience -- Chris Evans says Feige actively encourages him:

[A]s The Hollywood Reporter recently titled him: “The Political Avenger.”

Political indeed. His politics of late, being to bash President Trump as often as possible on his Twitter account in-between cashing his $15 million checks.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter from his $3.2 million Ivory Tower in the Hollywood hills, Evans mentioned that the President of Marvel Studios has no problem with him either attacking Trump or possibly alienating conservative and Republican movie-goers.

Said Evans: "Marvel has never said anything. On the contrary, when I bump into Kevin Feige (Marvel President), the first thing out of his mouth is 'Man, I love what you’'e doing on Twitter.'"

Not surprisingly, the Marvel President took it further than that: "I don’t see it as trash-talking. I see it as very astute, very honorable, very noble, very CAP-like."

During the very same interview, Massachusetts native and New England Patriots super-fan Evans said that it if turns out Tom Brady is really a Trump fan, he will most likely have to "cut ties" with the Greatest Of All Time quarterback.

It's pretty likely that most of the Real Avengers won't be back except in cameos in future movies, and I expect interest in this franchise to diminish quite a bit.

So I guess I don't really care.

But I will enjoy the future headlines, like, "Where has Marvel's magic gone?"
