Tip From Cops, Via Chicago Neighborhood Watch Account: Police Have Identified "Attackers," One of Whom Is a Friend and Fellow Actor of Jussie Smolett's?

I don't understand this tip -- are they saying these guys actually attacked Smollet, or that they participated in a staged attack they arranged with Smollet earlier?

I'm baffled. I don't know what this means. We also don't know any of this is true; this account says it's just an unconfirmed tip. The neighborhood watch account says police have given them a no-comment on this tip.

TMZ: Police are questioning an actor who has appeared on Empire, a second man who was traveling with that man, and @JussieSmollett today. Rideshare parallel intriguing. Again, tip is unconfirmed, but we are sharing given developments today. Also, if true (or relatively true), would indicate that CPD has known the offenders ID and the story details for more than a week. Time will tell.

Asked about specifics of this tip, CPD chief spokesperson @AJGuglielmi says, "Can't confirm anything. We have active interviews underway."

Well, based on the tip putting the word "attacked" in sneer-quotes/doubt-quotes like that, I'd say what the tip is claiming is that this was a pre-arranged fake attack, and that the "friends" were asked to take part, and the police are pressuring them to confess in participating in a hoax attack, not a bona fide attack.

Again, we don't know that this tip is legit.
