I'd like to thank Bill Kristol, Jonathan Last, Tom Nichols, and the rest of the NeverTrump All-Stars for giving us the Northam/Fairfax duo.

I mean, thank God they elected Serious Politicians who would serve as a rebuke to the vulgar circus of the Trump administration, huh?

I guess Bill Kristol, Charlie Sykes, Mona Charen and the rest of Grifters are all suuuuuuper-duper against post-natal abortion, huh?

Couple of more items. During Kavanaugh, the media's coordinated watchword was "credibly accused:"

But with Fairfax being accused, the new watchword is "unsubstantiated."

As Sean Davis points out, Politico and the New York Times are eager to brand this Tyson woman's charges "unsubstantiated" -- but in months of reporting, they never once referred to the charges against Kavanaugh as unsubstantiated.

Ted Frank has a good thread about this.

Notable absence of our blue-checked betters hectoring us to "Believe All Women" and insisting that an accuser--who has much more at stake and hurting her own party--has no motive to lie.

It would be nice if this means that the media and the mob have learned something from last year, but I suspect it will all go away with the next smear campaign using the MeToo shield against someone on the right. /3

Washington "Democracy Dies in Darkness" Post isn't even running a story, twelve hours *after the unfairly accused politician issued a public denial*. /4

It's as if they know that even reporting the denial is a dreadfully unfair smear precisely because a subset of its readers will assume the accusation has merit.

Yes, there’s a distinction between the Fairfax and Kavanaugh accusations--but every one of those distinctions shades towards reporting the Fairfax accusation and spiking the Kavanaugh one. /6

* Fairfax accuser immediately identified herself
* Fairfax allegations not sandbagged
* Fairfax ISSUED A STATEMENT

I don’t think that’s enough to report. But it’s more. /7

I can't emphasize the sandbagging enough. Senate Judiciary Committee has a marvelous procedure for investigating salacious claims without exposing accusers or accused to circus. Many candidates withdraw when investigation done. Dems went with circus at expense of Ford. /8

That was a hugely cynical demonstration that the Democrats didn't believe a single word of the allegation and didn’t remotely care about the issue. They just wanted to smear Kavanaugh and knew regular procedures would not accomplish that. And media happily helped. /9

Post now runs a story with the denial at 12:12, and explanation why they didn't previously run it (denying Fairfax's version), but doesn’t explain why this got different treatment than Kavanaugh.

Old News But Has to be Mentioned: Over the weekend, we got the news that Jussie Smollet reappeared on surveillance camera, after his alleged attack, still holding his Subway sandwich.

As one does, when one has been attacked, doused with bleach, and throttled with a noose.

Jussie Smollet -- hero to men everywhere. When Da Kid wants a Meatball Parm, Da Kid gets a Meatball Parm.

You can't coach grit. You can't coach passion for meatball parm.
