Word from The Weekly Standard: "Something Bad Is Going to Happen on Friday"
Really? You're bracing for bad news?
If you remember, the Weekly Standard has no budget beyond December 14th.
Friday, it turns out, is December 14th.
Politico says that Weekly Standard staffers are "bracing for bad news about the magazine's future." Given that there is no money budgeted to pay the staff or rent or any other costs -- yes, smart move to start bracing, guys.
Wow, these guys who have been supported by the charity of others all their professional lives are just sorta getting the hang of this "capitalism" thing, just in time.
Smart. I'm so glad we have these paragons of the Cognitive Elite to do our thinking for us.
Staffers at the Weekly Standard have been told to gather for an all-hands meeting Friday -- and they're bracing for bad news about the conservative magazine's future, according to four people familiar with the plans.
The Weekly Standard’s publisher, MediaDC, has not sent out an official memo announcing the gathering, nor has editor-in-chief Stephen Hayes. But word has circulated among the staff, including from some managers, that they should be prepared to convene, the people familiar with the meeting said.
...
The billionaire conservative donor Philip Anschutz, who owns Clarity Media, has also remained silent, leaving his employees without any sense of what might happen to their jobs.
“The assumption that everyone has is that something bad is going to happen on Friday," one Weekly Standard writer said.
Again, good assuming. Later on, when you have real jobs, you'll learn that bosses expect actual results and performance and --
Eh, forget it, I don't want to ruin the surprise.
...
Top editorial leaders already have discussed a possible successor publication of some sort, according to two people familiar the talks. One option could be to expand a small conservative site called the Bulwark, which is published by the Defending Democracy Together Institute, a nonprofit that Kristol is involved with. He and Weekly Standard contributing editor Charlie Sykes already sit on the editorial board of the site, which currently lists just two editorial employees.
Oh, Defending Democracy Together? Why does that sound so familiar?
Oh yeah -- Julie Kelly mentioned Defending Democracy Together as yet another one of leftist billionaire Pierre Omidyar's charitable contributions to the socialist left.
Defending Democracy Together: Another post-2016 election group, Defending Democracy Together has received at least $600,000 from a Democracy Fund [an organization funded by Pierre Omidyar] affiliate this year. Headed by Kristol, Charen, Chavez as well as Trump foes Christine Todd Whitman and former Rep. Bob Inglis (who also works with another Democracy Fund recipient--the R Street Institute--which received $650,000 in 2017), Defending Democracy Together is fighting the president on the special counsel probe, tariffs, and immigration policy. The group has run television ads throughout the year demanding that Congress protect the Mueller investigation and that acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker recuse himself.
Pierre Omidyar also funds The Intercept, which is of course opposed to any kind of action against terrorist supporting regimes in the Middle East. So Pierre Omidyar is not a fan of Bill Kristol's foreign policy acumen; he is just trying to destroy the conservative movement.
And Bill's ready to help, as long as it comes with a check.
The Bulwark already has a website, which actually just looks like Bill Kristol's MySpace Page, filled with links to his favorite tweets.
The Bulwark's motto? "Conservatism Conserved." No, seriously. I'm not joking.
They should have just called it Concerned Christian Conservative Troll Post.
Right now it's just a skeleton crew of Pierre Omidyar's favorite donation-sucking political #thots, but I suppose they might find some more of that sweet, sweet Omidyar money to bring aboard the Intellectual Star Power of Senorita Steve Hayes and noted manboy comic book movie enthusiast Jonathan Last.
And then they'll really start putting out some quality product.
So, here's the situation:
Half of "the Right" is funded by Ebay billionaire Pierre Omidyar, and the other half of "the Right" is funded by Google.
But don't worry, you're getting the very best leadership for your leftwing tech billionaires' dollars.
Oh, one last thing: Jonah's organization, AEI?
Also funded by George Soros' Center for American Progress:
Yes, this is all just fine.
Controlled Opposition
Whatever it takes to keep the Deplorables under our thumbs.
