Bill Kristol Replies to Disclosure He's Funded by Left-Wing Tech Billionaire: Thank God for the "Public Spiritedness of the Left," I Just Wish We Could See Equal "Public Spiritedness on the Right"
So this is an implicit admission: He links Julie Kelly's story and congratulates his left-wing friends on their "public spiritedness." He only wishes the right, which he concedes is not funding him at the left's level, would also give him equal amounts of money.
I mean, give him equal amounts of "public spiritedness."
Grateful to all—left, right, and center—who are willing to step up to defend liberal democracy and the rule of law. Nothing would make me happier if such impressive examples of public-spiritedness on the left inspired more public-spiritedness on the right! https://t.co/kIHPULt2A9
By the way, this same left-wing billionaire also bankrolled Evan McMullin. Go figure. Other left-wing Silicon Valley magnates funded him too, but McMullin hid behind "dark money" laws to hide their identities.
So all you NeverTrumpers know for certain how Kristol and his pals are getting paid.
A defense of Kristol will be made that his principles haven't changed, only the marks he's grifting money from, so why shouldn't he take the money?
Well, let me ask Kristol's defenders this: Do they really imagine Kristol is not compromised by a desire to please his new benefactors?
Is it just a coincidence that Weekly Standard employees -- not employees of Kristol's various money-grifting political organizations-- seem to move in lockstep to support his political organizations' operations?
Is there really no diversity of opinion at all at the Weekly Standard? Or is it just accepted that if you disagree with the goals Kristol's buckraking operations, you keep your mouth shut?
I emailed Lee Smith at his Weekly Standard address to ask for his opinion about this, but I found out Smith had been fired days after he submitted a report on FusionGPS.
I'm sure that was just a coincidence, though.
I ask again: What is Weekly Standard's policy about keeping a separation between magazine business -- the Standard is supposedly an independent journal of opinion, after all -- and Bill Kritol's buckraking political ops?
Do they have a policy of separation to make sure that Kristol's extracurricular activities do not overly influence supposedly-independent magazine journalism? Or is it all just loosey-goosey and anything goes?
The response to these questions from Kristol's NeverTrump friends, below.
It will be a very principled silence, though. Just ask them!!!
