Three O'Clock High: Trump Summons Wray and Rosenstein to White House; Will Discuss His Demand for Investigation Into Spying and Release of Information About Spying Efforts
Showdown? The meeting's scheduled for three pm Eastern.
President Trump will meet with top Justice, FBI and intelligence officials Monday to discuss congressional requests for information on the investigation into Russian collusion, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.
The meeting comes a day after Trump demanded that the Justice Department investigate whether the FBI improperly infiltrated his campaign for president in 2016.
The president has been urging his administration to turn over information to congressional Republicans demanding the identity of sources in the probe. Law enforcement and intelligence officials have resisted, saying it could compromise their investigation and imperil covert sources.
In the Oval Office Monday, Trump will meet with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Sanders said.
PJMedia's Morning Briefing says Trump should declassify the documents on his own authority instead of asking underlings to do it.
Trump is getting bad advice. He should not have asked the DOJ, a subject of the investigation, to investigate itself. With all the DOJ stonewalling and slow-walking of documents to comply with congressional oversight, there's no doubt a mountain of bad behavior is being covered up. What Trump should have done, and can still do, is DECLASSIFY ALL THE DOCUMENTS in question. He has the power to do this and after the documents are declassified, then we can look at further steps depending on what they reveal.
Maybe that will be discussed -- giving these guys one last chance to make their case why a name we already know, and which the DOJ pretty much gave to the Washington Post and New York Times, cannot be openly mentioned.
