Woman Accusing Missouri Governor of Taking a Racy Picture of Her In Order to Blackmail Her Now Says She Isn't Sure He Took A Picture of Her and May Have Dreamed The Episode
Hashtag #BelieveAllWomen.
Attorneys defending Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens against a felony invasion-of-privacy charge say his mistress-accuser isn't sure what happened
The woman, a hairdresser, claimed Greitens took a photo of her partially in the nude so he could blackmail her into silence about their affair
She was bound and blindfolded at the time
Now she testifies that she can't recall seeing him with a camera-phone, and doesn't know if her belief that he had the phone was the result of a dream
Police arrested the governor on the basis of a recorded conversation she had with her husband, where she said she saw a camera flash through the blindfold
She claims Greitens told her he had erased the picture, but the governor's defense team believes it never existed
Now they're demanding prosecutors turn over any other evidence that might clear Greitens
By the way, check out this Federalist piece on the prosecutor pressing this case -- she's a real Social Justice Warrior #Woke peach.
Gardner has developed a negative reputation among police officers in St. Louis. She's looked the other way on cases into which they’ve poured time and energy; and she's gone after police officers with more aggressiveness than she’s gone after killers and thieves.
That might explain why the new police chief in St. Louis, John Hayden, was so quick to point out to the press that the police had no involvement in the Greitens case. Not only did they not investigate, but the chief took issue with Gardner’s suggestion that the police had been asked to and didn’t: "It makes me frustrated because it’s as if she’s saying I failed to do something I’m supposed to do here, and that’s not the case at all. To date, nobody has tried to report this to the police department."
Her office put out a statement on this claim that the "victim" now says she may have dreamed being photographed:
A spokeswoman for the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s office says the latest court filing by attorneys for Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens is another attack on the “credibility of the victim.”
Greitens faces trial in May on a felony invasion of privacy charge for allegedly taking a partially nude photo of a woman with whom he was having an affair in 2015 while she was blindfolded and bound.
In a court filing Sunday, Greitens' attorneys say the woman testified she never saw Greitens with a camera or phone on the day he is accused of taking the photo. The court filing says the woman also testified during her Friday deposition that she doesn’t know if her belief that he had a phone was the result of a dream.
Circuit attorney spokeswoman Susan Ryan says in a statement that the defense "cherry picked bits and pieces" of the woman’s nine-hour deposition.
Um, if she did in fact say during the deposition that she can't be sure Greitens did the very thing he's being prosecuted for, and in fact may have only "dreamed" it,, that's not just a "cherry" that you pick from the bowl. That is the bowl.
