NO PANIC! Molly Woodruff, Spence Ackerman Peddle More Fake News at the Daily Beast
They claimed Devin Nunes "refused to answer" if he had worked with the White House on the memo.
He did answer. The transcript shows him answering.
They claimed he said "I'm not answering" when asked that.
He didn't. The words "I'm not answering" appear nowhere in the transcript.
Woodruff and Ackerman, of course, stand by their reporting. For... some reason.
When the transcript came to light, Woodruff defended her original reporting by ignoring the many falsehoods prominently featured in her story, conveniently omitting the accusation which she originally reported Nunes refused to deny.
This publication of false information based on anonymous Democratic sources on the Intelligence Committee is reminiscent of CNN’s embarrassing publication of a claim that Donald Trump, Jr., had colluded to publicize a new Wikileaks stash of hacked emails ahead of its public release. In that case, CNN claimed two independent sources. But it turned out that these two supposedly independent sources had provided false information about the email’s date. The correct date, after the public release of those records, completely destroyed the claim. CNN has still not revealed which sources lied to the network and its audience by providing false information, or why the network publicized information without first verifying whether it was even true.
The Daily Beast has also published false information when it accused Chairman Nunes of sneaking to the White House at midnight to secretly review top-secret documents. Rep. Adam Schiff, who is plausibly the source of this false claim, repeated the false claim earlier this week. In fact, Nunes reviewed the documents during daylight hours, as he corrected the record publicly on CNN in April. In that case, it was Tim Mak who credulously accepted false information without verifying it.
Mollie Hemingway is a bit perplexed as to why the liberal media keeps taking Adam Schiff's absurd anonymous claims as the gold standard, given that they're frequently false.
Yet, or maybe because of this [propensity for serial partisan-chum falsehoods], Schiff is clearly one of CNN's best sources for their Russia-Trump collusion theory, no matter how much they get burned.
Schiff is portrayed by many in the media as being a straight shooter. His record in reality is of fanning the flames of absolutely every single Trump-Russia collusion allegation out there. Just this past week he pushed the false claim that Americans' desire to see the House Intel Committee’s memo was in reality a Russian bot operation. Despite being a ranking member of an oversight committee, he lacks curiosity and interest into potential abuses at the FBI.
Nothing seems to have merited his attention in the slightest. He has not sought to follow-up on explosive texts about a Russia probe being an "insurance policy" because agents couldn’t take "the risk" of a Trump presidency. He is not interested in reports of the wife of top Justice official Bruce Ohr literally being employed by Fusion GPS, or by his change in employment as a result of this revelation. He had no problem with Fusion GPS being funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign. He's opposed subpoenas to Fusion, to the Department of Justice, to the FBI.
