Another Poll Shows Democrats' Lead in Congressional Generic Ballot Falling By Half
Noted RUSSIAN BOT expert Allahpundit notes, with some degree of chagrin, the bad news for his party.
Of the last five generic ballot polls taken, four show the Dems' lead cut in half from the heights of mid-December, when they were leading consistently by margins of 10 points are better. If you missed this post on Friday night about NBC's latest survey, that'll catch you up on the other numbers. The most dramatic example of the trend towards Republicans comes in today’s new one from CNN, which has Republicans trailing by just five points among registered voters. A month ago, CNN had Republicans down... 18. No typo.
He notes some optimistic news, however: There remains one lone poll showing a big Democrat advantage -- the ABC/Washington Post poll still shows a double-digit lead -- and Democrats still lead in enthusiasm and therefore propensity to vote. The usual rule that Republicans are more likely to vote in midterms than Democrats may be reversed, and thus the polls may understate Democrats' true lead whereas they usually overstate it.
However, i'd note that a rising tide lifts all poll number boats, and just as increasing enthusiasm for the economy has boosted Republicans on the congressional generic ballot, as well as slightly boosted Trump's approval rating, so too, over time, will the gangbusters economy begin increasing Republican enthusiasm.
