Megyn Kelly Debuts Oprah-Like "Just Us Gals" Style Gabfest; Reviews Aren't Good
"Awkward" seems to be the critical verdict. As well as "phony," as Megyn Kelly poses as that which she is not.
Her previous persona was that of a smart, icy, and prima donna-ish #RealNews interviewer. The new persona is of a Regular Gal and Average Mom who's not into the politics but just wants to talk about family and veterans and babies and recipes and babies and herself.
The video Sexton links (first link) starts out kind of charming, as a clearly terrified Kelly admits straight up that she's terrified, a short moment of authenticity.
And then we get into the smarmy #JustLikeYou #MegyMoments of her life story. She keeps cadging sympathy by talking about her father dying when she was 15, then talks about her "memoir," then talks about "empowerment," then she goes on an in-studio Listening Tour, and says she just wants to hear from the audience.
Serious you guys she wants to connect with you on a human, emotional, regular mom level.
But she's so awkward she appears... crazy.
Then I think an "audience member" "surprises" her by bringing out roses -- I think "Doug from Philly" is her husband.
It's such an obvious, hamfisted ploy for #JustLikeYou points.
I predict that by the tenth show she'll have a "surprise" guest -- her OB/GYN, to discuss her episiotomy and the lessons she learned from it. With pictures.
(Note: I have no idea if she had an episiotomy or not. I'm just sayin', she's gonna crank up the bathos to 11.)
It's pretty terrible. It's so bad I sympathize with her. Sad!
