The George Washington Bridge: Labor Day 2017
The bridge was opened in the fall of 1931, expanded to eight lanes in 1946, and had a comparatively ugly second deck added in 1962. It's still a beautiful bridge, but it leads to perhaps the most awful highway in America...the Cross Bronx Expressway. The highway, which leads from Manhattan, across the Bronx, to I-95 and the bridges to Long Island, is 6.5 miles long, and I have, once or twice, spent two hours driving that distance, and didn't even have the pleasure of gazing onto the ugliness of the Bronx, because much of the road is below grade, with high walls on either side.
So what's your worst road?
