The part they're having the most problem with turns out to be the biggest challenge for Tony Stark, too -- the power for the power suit. And of course there's no such thing as "the ARC reactor." (Although later the "ARC" name was used for a hypothetical, yet-unbuilt Affordable Robust Compact fusion reactor.)
One partial solution I'm pretty sure they'll get to eventually: Build a stronger version of this freaky scary robot "dog" that can carry a huge battery on it. Maybe even a pebble-bed fission reactor. The suit can get charged off the reactor as he walks, unplug from the power-dog when doing combat-oriented stuff, and of course plug in to charge its smaller backpack battery during pure downtime.
Imagine that freaky-looking robot dog walking around with a reactor and a power-cord connected to the "Iron Man" powered armor (depicted below).
