Five-State Manhunt and $50,000 Reward for Man Who Posted FaceBook Video of Him Murdering an Elderly Man, Apparently at Random
He did offer some kind of explanation, but it makes no sense to anyone who is sane.
Joy Lane, who dated Stephens for several years, said in a statement that Stephens is "a nice guy ... he is generous with everyone he knows. He was kind and loving to me and my children. This is a very difficult time for me and my family."
In the video he uploaded to Facebook, Stephens mentions Lane in the moments before the shooting, saying to the victim, "She's the reason why all this about to happen to you."
Who the hell knows what that could possibly mean. Joy Lane says she's "not sure" why the killer would have mentioned her; the perp's mother said that Stephens had mentioned being "angry" with his girlfriend shortly before the killing.
It took FaceBook three hours to take the murder video down, though I'm not sure I can fault them for that. Moderation is hard! Seriously, I can't imagine what it's like moderating millions and millions of accounts.
By the way, last week's crazed shooter was apprehended on Friday, avoiding the Easter shooting that law enforcement had feared.
