The Race To Irrelevance Continues Apace

Should Acting Prizes Be Gender-Neutral?

The MTV Movie & TV Awards will no longer hand out separate trophies for best male and female performers. Will bigger ceremonies follow suit?

By all means make yourselves less important than you are now. The American people don't really pay attention to awards ceremonies anyway. They spend their entertainment dollars based on many other things. Just look at the box office takes of the winners, and you will discover that while they are loved by the critics, the paying public has other ideas. And neutering awards for some mythical sense of equality is not something that Americans will warm to anytime soon.

There's a reason why men play men's roles and women play women's roles. They are different. Maybe not in Hollywood's fevered imagination, but most people are sane, including the people who buy movie tickets.
