New York Police Department Has Refused All Federal Detainer Requests for Criminal Illegal Aliens This Year

All of them. 109 criminals are protected from deportation, just this short year so far.

According to the New York Post, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have asked the NYPD to detain a person or persons 109 times since the beginning of 2017. Larry Byrne, the NYPD's deputy commissioner on legal matters, said Monday the police department has complied with none of those requests.

"We've honored zero of them so far, none," said Byrne. He added that three of the requests were eligible for aid under the city law offering sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

Kerry Picket's article points out something I didn't know, and may be an avenue that needs exploring. The reason for the detainer to be issued is to give the feds time to get a warrant for the arrest of the illegal alien criminal. Apparently that takes forty-eight hours, and the NYPD won't honor the request for a 48 hour hold. (I guess that's why they call it a "detainer," but I'm not sure.)

So part of this maybe could be resolved by setting up bunch of judges who can rapidly issue these warrants and nab these guys right in the police lock-up or in court.

Not sure! But maybe something can be done here.
