"Constitutional Conservatives" Now Openly Calling for Coup Against Democratically-Elected Government by Unelected, Anonymous Members of the Deep State

Yesterday, Gentry-Liberal-Who-Loves-Foreign-Wars Bill Kristol championed the unelected Deep State over the elected "Trump state:"

Then "Constitutional Conservative" government hack Egg McMuffin defended the illegal leaking by the intelligence services in the name of "democracy" or whatever:

Then John Schindler, ex-NSA idiot and Master of OpSec now says "we" will go "nuclear" on the duly-elected president:

John Podhoretz had a rare moment of clarity today, in which he warned the Deep State of the fire they were playing with:

If the language surrounding the investigation remains florid and purple, if Democrats try to please their Trump-hating constituents by screaming impeachment and liberal media tries to garner audience by jumping openly and vociferously on the bandwagon, the Trumpians will respond in kind by stirring the pot through their media and their argumentation.

The result might well be violence. Not rhetorical violence. Actual violence. Actual political violence. Actual conflicts between anti-Trumpers and Trumpers. At demonstrations. In the streets. Of our cities. Political violence of a sort we haven’t seen in 50 years, and maybe haven't really seen in this country in the modern era. Those who believe Trump is a unique menace whose threat to our democratic way of life will be met with those who believe the elites are using illicit means to oust the legitimately elected president of the United States.

This is not a fantasy. This is one possible future. And every rational person who cares about the future of the country should be mindful of it, and should work to forestall it.

Damon Linker similarly thinks the Overclass What Knows Everything hasn't apparently ever read a history book about what happens when undemocratic means are used to quash the popular will.

The whole episode is evidence of the precipitous and ongoing collapse of America's democratic institutions -- not a sign of their resiliency. Flynn's ouster was a soft coup (or political assassination) engineered by anonymous intelligence community bureaucrats. The results might be salutary, but this isn't the way a liberal democracy is supposed to function.

Unelected intelligence analysts work for the president, not the other way around. Far too many Trump critics appear not to care that these intelligence agents leaked highly sensitive information to the press -- mostly because Trump critics are pleased with the result....

Those cheering the deep state torpedoing of Flynn are saying, in effect, that a police state is perfectly fine so long as it helps to bring down Trump...

Sitting back and letting shadowy, unaccountable agents of espionage do the job for us simply isn't an acceptable alternative.

Down that path lies the end of democracy in America.

I've defined "populism" as "the insane, dangerous belief that the know-it-all overclass is actually pretty stupid and incompetent, and also very self-interested."

I mean, that's just crazy-talk, isn't it?

These people move from triumph to triumph, never erring in their relentless race against impossible perfection.

But the way the Establishment, DC Claque, and Deep State see it, "populism" is a dangerous revolt of the people against Better People Who Know Better.

They don't like the conspiratorial nature of populism -- such as the allegation that the game is "rigged" by powerful, hidden forces who would never permit a Trump to win (or govern).

They're so offended by this charge that, like Islamists protesting the claim that Islamists are violent by murdering you, they immediately set out to brag that there are indeed powerful, hidden forces who will run this country as they see fit whether you peons like it or not.

As Daniel Webster said:

There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.

These Deep State bureaucrats and pencil-pushers are determined to "save democracy" -- even if they have to destroy democracy to do so. And they will save us from a Fascist Authoritarian, even if that means resort to Fascist Authoritarian Informant State tactics on their own part.
