White House: Election Vote Tally "Accurately Reflects the Will of the American People"
Lord God King Obama issuing this bull kind of takes the wind out of the sails of all the lunatic Democrats claiming a Russian Hack.
Jill Stein is seeking recounts in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania -- blue states that President-elect Trump carried by thin red margins. The presidential nominee of the Green Party, Stein points to "very troubling news" about the cybersecurity of those state's voting systems.
The Stein campaign is aggressively fundraising and has set a goal of $7 million to fund the recounts. But the administration insists that no foreign government meddled in American elections.
Rumors about Russian hacks reflect a greater strategy to undermine American institutions, the White House told the New York Times.
"The Kremlin probably expected that publicity surrounding the disclosures that followed the Russian government-directed compromises of emails from U.S. persons and institutions," the administration said in a statement, "including from U.S. political organizations, would raise questions about the integrity of the election process that could have undermined the legitimacy of the president-elect."
In other words, Moscow undoubtedly hoped that Clinton campaign emails released by WikiLeaks would make it seem like the digital strength of ballot boxes were jeopardized.
It's interesting to speculate about Stein's motives. Some have noted her ever-escalating ask as far as fund-raising for the recount, and have suggested a money-making motive.
There are other possibilities, obviously. Being a leftist, Stein is surely aghast that Donald Trump has been made president and will be personally carrying out hate crimes against individual minority families by random draw from a huge cauldron filled with names.
But the Green Party is also threatened by Trump's win -- third parties can only get votes if people are convinced there's not much harm in tossing a vote to a third party. With many now blaming Stein for the Hillary loss, this may be a bid to boost goodwill towards the Green Party, and to dampen vindictive feelings towards them.
The left never got over Ralph Nader "stealing" the 2000 election from Al Gore. This may be an effort by the Greens to preserve their current level of political (non-) viability.
Which also gets at fundraising. Any big-league donor on the left who gave to the Greens might be very reluctant to do so in the future once Donald Trump begins roving the streets with leather-and-machete gangs of biker punks, like The Humungus in Road Warrior.
