Drama: Trump Either "Furious" or "Irritated" About Kellyanne Conway's Disparagement of Mitt Romney
As Trump continues looking at Mitt Romney as a possible Secretary of State, Kellyanne Conway blasts him as having been caustic towards Trump during the election.
Trump is either "furious" about her remarks or merely "irritated."
Their sources claim that both Trump and Stephen Bannon are "frustrated" with "Conway's failure to become a team player." Joe Scarborough called it "extraordinarily undisciplined," and that's true whether or not their two sources are on the level. It certainly appears that we’re seeing a palace revolt over a potential Romney appointment even before the team moves into the palace.
A Trump spokesman called reports about Trump being angry "false" and Conway called the reporting on this... sexist, for some reason.
I wonder if Trump and Conway are playing a Good Cop Bad Cop game here. Trump wants a public apology from Romney; we know that Trump's ego is easily bruised and requires a lot of massaging to start healing. It could be that Trump is playing nice with Romney while some of his chosen surrogates are attacking the possibility of Romney as Secretary of State as unacceptable, given all the mean things Romney said about Trump.
In other words: Gee, we'd sure like you to be Secretary of State, but Trump's Crazy-Loyal Supporters just won't accept you unless you publicly apologize for offending Mr. Trump...
That's pretty Trumpian. Even more Trumpian? Extracting the public apology from Romney and then humiliating him by offering the job to someone else.
Whatever Trump's plan, it would help to trot out a guy who Trump might give the job to instead of Romney. Say David Petraeus, whom Trump is meeting with later today to talk about the job.
Petraeus can be used as a negotiating chip to extract the apology from Romney. And then, of course, he can be given the job, humiliating Romney.
