The Academy Has Their Philosophy Exactly 180° Off Course [CBD]
Safe spaces, speech codes, free-speech zones, never-ending mandatory seminars on inclusiveness and respect and blah, blah, blah. The typical college education is rapidly morphing into a four (or five or six) year nursery school nap time.
But the entire point of higher education is to challenge one's preconceived notions. It SHOULD be uncomfortable sometimes. That means being exposed to ideas that are different, disturbing, and sometimes downright offensive. And being able to express ideas that may be uncomfortable for others.
It's called, "learning."
Which apparently doesn't happen much at the University of Coddled and Spoiled children: Houston Branch. University of Houston Student Suspended And Required To Attend Cultural Events For Writing "All Lives Matter"
Now, Sethi will be allowed to return after a type of public confession that seemed more appropriate to a reeducation camp than an American campus. Sethi issued a joint statement with Smith that said that “I have chosen to take these steps on my own because of the division I’ve created among our student body,. I may have the right to post what I did, but I still should not have. My words at the time didn’t accurately convey my feeling and cause many students to lose their faith in me to advocate for them. I will always continue to learn and be ready to discuss these issues.”
So she has the right to speak but will be sanctioned if she does?
Anyone learn about communism in college? I did. I didn't like what I learned. What a horrible and twisted ideology. But I'm very, very glad I know something about it. In today's academy I imagine I would be able to bring my professor up on charges for violating my comfort zone! Although I am suspicious that there isn't much real knowledge of communism being imparted to our callow youth nowadays. And I might be the one charged for questioning dogma.
Here is Politico spinning a poll....Poll: Most Americans unwilling to vote for a socialist:
Just 47 percent of Americans would vote for a socialist if their party nominated one, while 50 percent said they would not, while 58 percent said they would have no problem voting for an atheist in their party.
"Just 47%?" That does not fill me with hope for the future.
