Byron York: While People Debate the Cost and Wisdom of the Iraq War, Jeb Bush Childishly Whines About His Mom's Name Being Sullied
Very tough, and quite right, observation by Byron York -- however you come down on the Iraq War, I'm sure you'll agree that the main point is not whether Jeb Bush has a nice mom or not.
This really is very telling. If Jeb thinks that colossal questions of war and peace are subordinate to whether or not his family's name is being besmirched, he's not a plausible commander in chief.
Perhaps his terrible advisers told him the Bush name was still popular in South Carolina so he offered up these wet baby stool responses.
It would be par for the course if he once again just repeated what his braindead advisers told him to.
I really want to quote this, but... just read the first (short) six paragraphs. I don't want to steal his main thrust.
It's all very Roman. It's not about the republic, nor the legions, but whether or not Marcus Cincinnatus Graccus insulted Gnaeus Cincinnatus Orgellus.
Maybe Bush just couldn't think on the spot to note that his brother didn't lie, and that Clinton (both Clintons!) had said the same thing, etc.
Maybe he was just flustered and this was all he could think of.
Even so, that doesn't speak well for his marbles.
This should not be a surprise line of attack. It should not have been a surprise that Megyn Kelly asked him if the war was a mistake seven months ago; surely it can't still befuddle him when the issue is brought up.
At least, it shouldn't.
