Overnight Open Thread 11/13/15 (tmi3rd)

Good evening once again, Morons and Moronettes. I'm tmi3rd, and greetings from the not-very-busy AoSHQ weather desk, where you'll be getting me pinch-hitting for CDR M tonight.

Obviously, the story of the day is Paris, but there's plenty of content on other fronts for you this evening, so let's dive in... head below the fold.

Gavin McInnes: Even Science Is Under Attack From The PC Police

Language warning: NSFW.

It's a pain in the ass to work around this stuff, especially since it's embedded in academia. A project I'm working on has so much SJW and anti-GMO crusade crap around it that it's hard to find sources that are delivered in simple, fact-based scientific terminology. Everything is dressed up with emotional garbage to the point where it makes you question whether the writers actually have any clue what they're talking about.

The 45 Most Badass Lines Ever Uttered In Real Life

Speaks for itself, but this one really jumped out at me:

Jefferson.jpg

There are some serial killers and other assorted bad guys in this, but in general, I think this is a pretty good list.

A Book Plug...

Greg Gutfeld has a new book out called How To Be Right: The Art of Being Persuasively Correct(the link goes to Ace's Amazon Store page), and I want to aggressively recommend it to anyone who reads this blog, period.

The readers here are- in general- pissed-off, ready to fight, and more than a little aghast at what's happening to our country. The anger is palpable, and that's good.

Gutfeld's book is chock-full of techniques on how to sell your position, not only to like-minded people, but to opponents as well. It doesn't lead you to softened positions on anything, but sharper ways of driving the point home and ultimately winning the argument while keeping the opponent's ears open.

After really more like ten years of this crap (don't forget, the spiral started in 2006), please read this and win your arguments at the level of culture change.

Where Gary Pinkel Self-Immolates...

Gary Pinkel is the head football coach at Missouri, and threw his support behind his players over the boycott of practice while these protests were going on.

Not everyone on the team was on board with this move, however.

"As much as we want to say everyone is united, half the team and coaches -- black and white -- are pissed," an anonymous player told ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy. "If we were 9-0, this wouldn't be happening."

Yes, I'm aware that's a couple of days old. So, in the last 48 hours, Gary Pinkel was interviewed by Kevin Kietzman of Sports Radio 810 WHB in Kansas City, and it did NOT go well. The link is to the audio.

As of 3:30 CST this afternoon, Pinkel resigned, citing non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I won't offer any speculation, but the timing is curious. I didn't expect he'd be retained as the coach after this escapade, and I think he'd have had a hard time recruiting after all this. A few people have pointed out that you could make a reasonable case to fire him with cause, and I'll let you make up your own minds on what happened.

In the meantime, let me offer you a couple of thoughts on this...

One, at this point, it's fair to say that the president and chancellor at Mizzou (at whose feet some of the blame can be justifiably laid) would not have resigned if the football team hadn't decided to go all SJW. Mizzou would have owed Brigham Young a reported $1 million if this game had not been played, plus the loss of whatever revenue they would have made from the national television contract.

At this point, I don't think I'd let my kids go to a four-year school with Division I athletics unless they were a) pro-caliber athletes, or b) in need of a specific academic path that could only be found at School X. As much as I adore my LSU Fighting Tigers, and as I'm a veteran of D-III college hockey, and am a fan of SEC football, I am so revolted by football being the deciding factor on campus that I'm leaning towards letting that fandom lapse into nothingness.

Two, it's fair to shrug and say, "Liberal-on-liberal violence. So what? Pass the popcorn," and blow it off. The problem with that is that by us ignoring it, the problem didn't go away, but festered.

Academia and broadcasting are two places where non-socialists are almost nonexistent, and our tax dollars in large part subsidize that (colleges and networks alike). Now, I'm a total hypocrite for saying this, because I've worked in both fields and walked away from both because the atmosphere was too toxic for me, but particularly in academia, your representatives from kindergarten all the way up through Ph.D fields have to hear your dissatisfaction with the circular intellectual inbreeding going on in education, period. These folks who get Ph.Ds in gender or racial grievance studies do not go out into the private sector to spread their bullshit, but instead stay at the university they matriculated from and poison things even more.

The answer is to let your school board, your board of regents, your state reps, and even your congresscritters know that this is unacceptable, and that's where it starts.

OXCART vs Blackbird: Do You Know The Difference?"

A-12 vs SR-71.jpeg

A very cool article about the differences between the CIA's A-12 OXCART and the USAF's SR-71 Blackbird.

Who Would You Choose?

'Baywatch' Eyes Nina Dobrev, Alexandra Daddario, and More for Leading Lady

I'm agnostic on this, but I can be bribed.

Tonight's Musical Selection...

Stu Hamm gonna Stu Hamm. Piano licks, banjo licks, RIDICULOUS chops, the whole bag. Check it out...

A closing thought...

Some very important things are happening politically, where the base is genuinely rejecting the party-anointed candidates. Whatever happens, I implore you to make sure you vote in your primary and in another year, when all the chips are on the table.

We're having a healthy fight about who and what best represents our interests going forward, but in the end, the Moron Nation is a family. I've never traveled anywhere in this country where there wasn't a Moron there to meet me and welcome me (and my family), and let's be one family when it matters next November.

Families bicker, they fight, they cause drama, but if we stick together, we can be part of the cleansing fire that burns away the pain of this last decade. We can change the path of this nation at the ballot box, and beat back some of what's been plaguing this nation.

Let's make next Thanksgiving one to be more grateful than ever for, and let's make sure that we enjoy this one, as well. If I don't see or talk to any of you before a couple of weeks from now, please accept my wishes (and for the other CoBs) for a happy and blessed Thanksgiving, and my prayers for a wonderful Christmas/Hanukkah season coming up.

Thanks for reading!
