Marco Rubio: There's A Very Simple Reason I Don't Show Up To Vote In The Senate: I Gave My Notice

Rubio reminds me so much of Obama...inexperienced, more packaging than substance and pretty sure he's the only man who can save America. Add something else to the list, constantly disappointed that he's not in positions commensurate with his awesomeness. Basically 4 years into his Senate term he decided that job he fought so hard for wasn't to his liking after all.

“I don’t know that ‘hate’ is the right word,” Rubio said in an interview. “I’m frustrated.”

This year, as Rubio runs for president, he has cast the Senate — the very place that cemented him as a national politician — as a place he’s given up on, after less than one term. It’s too slow. Too rule-bound. So Rubio, 44, has decided not to run for his seat again. It’s the White House or bust.

“That’s why I’m missing votes. Because I am leaving the Senate. I am not running for reelection,” Rubio said in the last Republican debate, after Donald Trump had mocked him for his unusual number of absences during Senate votes.

...

“I’m not missing votes because I’m on vacation,” he told CNN on Sunday. “I’m running for president so that the votes they take in the Senate are actually meaningful again.”

Asked about his absences recently by Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today” Show, Rubio said: “My ambitions aren’t for me. My ambitions are for the country, and Florida.” If he is elected to the White House, he added, “we can begin to fix some of these issues that I’ve been so frustrated we’ve been unable to address during my time in the Senate.”

Look, I'm sorry the Senate isn't providing Rubio with the opportunity to show his dazzling skills. Personally I'm glad. The one and only time Rubio got anything done it was cut an amnesty deal, you know the kind he ran against in 2010, with Obama-Shumer-Reid-McCain. How'd that work out for everyone?

I'm sure it's frustrating to not be able to be passing all sorts of bills to expand the government but isn't part of your job to push your leadership? I get people going after Ted Cruz for not producing results (that's why I tend to prefer governors like Bobby Jindal) but at least he's trying to push "leadership". Has it worked? Not much if at all but at least he's succeeded in bringing attention to the fecklessness of the GOP. That's often the first step towards reform. But Rubio doesn't do that. He doesn't highlight the failings of the current GOP leadership, he goes along with them and then sulks about it. That's not helping anything. But give him the big chair outside the Senate and he'll whip them into shape! Uh-huh.

Here's a crazy idea for Senator Rubio....resign. You aren't showing up because you gave a year's plus notice. Now you're just cashing the checks? You're running on the idea that you are closer to normal Americatns when it comes to economic issues. Well the vast majority of people would do whatever it takes to keep a $174,000 a year job. And by "whatever" that basically means, "show up and do the job". Obviously you feel this is beneath you but I wonder if the people of Florida agree. Don't they deserve to be represented in the United States Senate by someone who at the very least shows up?

Politicians are forever congratulating themselves on their "service" and "leadership" yet some simply skip out when the going gets tough. I gave Palin a lot of crap over the years for quitting and then branding herself as a fighter. Well, at least she had the decency to stop taking public money when the going go tough. I'd prefer that to an empty seat timeserver on the payroll.
