Another Poll Puts Carson in a Commanding Lead in Iowa
Yesterday's poll showed him with an 8-point lead over the runner-up (Trump); today's poll gives Carson a 9-point lead.
Allah considers what this means for Trump's standing.
We should also consider what it means for Ben Carson, of course. Like Trump, Ben Carson has suffered from an of-course-we-know-he's-not-serious-and-can't-win sort of feeling from the Establishment. But, like Trump, Carson has been high in the polls for quite a long time.
At some point I think it has to be considered that yes, Ben Carson could win.
The guy has enviously high favorability ratings; he's made a whole bunch of impolitic statements that would tend to hurt him in the general, but maybe like Trump, his appeal isn't really lodged in ideology but in the imagination, so errant statements might wind up not hurting him all that much.
He'd be an interesting candidate, that's for sure. Oh, I don't mean interesting personally. He's a very sleepy kind of guy. But what a strange and unexpected force he'd be as the Republican nominee.
Gotta admit I'm just salivating at the number of standard liberal attacks that would be demolished: everything having to do with race, "Republicans hate science" (try that on a neurosurgeon), Hilary had to struggle so much being a woman (oh? Carson grew up black and on the hard road of being black, unlike Obama)...
Very interesting. I'm not really attached to anyone (I'm too disaffected to really believe in anything political any longer) so I tend to be attracted to things that sound interesting to me, so at least I won't kill myself from boredom over the next year.
Carson would be interesting. (Trump too, Fiorina too, and Jindal interesting plus extremely well credentialed in the way people mark credentials.)
