Four Marines were reportedly killed Thursday in one of two attacks at U.S. Navy facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn., and at least one shooter was dead.

The Marines were killed by a gunman who opened fire at a Naval Reserves Operations Center on Amnicola Highway, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press....

The shooting there came around the same time that a gunman in a silver Mustang opened fire at a Navy recruiting office in a strip mall some seven miles away, on Lee's Highway. The shooter stopped in front of the recruiting facility, shot at the building and drove off, said Brian Lepley, a spokesman with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Fort Knox, Ky....

It was not immediately known if the shootings were related, or what prompted them.

One might hazard a speculation, though.

Update: Shooter dead. In addition, I misread and believed these were coordinated attacks by two separate people; I see now it was just the same guy.

That greatly reduces my suspicions of jihadism (while not extinguishing them).

Update: Conflicting reports on whether the fourth man died -- I read he was shot in the leg. It may be three dead, one injured.

Not sure. Obviously this is fluid and first reports are notoriously inaccurate.

Update: Shep Smith says sources say that authorities are looking at the timing -- the last days of Ramadan, specifically. Further, Catherine Herridge says it's very unusual for the FBI to admit that an incident might be domestic terrorism (don't we know it) or to send so many agents to the scene so quickly.

She also says that high officials have said they're not sure "the threat has passed," i.e., there may be follow-on attacks.

Sure seems like they are looking closely at a jihadist motive.

Update: Two law enforcement sources are telling CBS the terrorist is named, get this, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.

"Gun Free Zone."

We can't trust our Marines with deadly weapons, obviously. Who knows what they might do with them!
