A Brief Independence Day Open Thread - [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]
Thinking this day...
No matter how bad it gets, I will take this country over any other, any day of the week.
You. Can't. Make. Me. Go.
What luxurious lives we lead that we have time to bitch and moan rather than fight and claw our way to meet even Maslow's lowest tiers of needs. So many around the world are lucky to survive the day and, here, in America, we have to plan for our long lives beyond our working years.
Each day, we awake and decide to get out of bed, or not.
We eat what we want, or nothing at all.
We travel to a job that we have chosen for ourselves.
And, despite the enormous infringement upon our earnings due to taxes, we are still allowed to do the aforementioned in more comfort than almost any peoples in history.
We are truly Blessed.
So, do you feel the same? Is there any other country for which, given the means, you would abandon the U.S.?
How do you plan to celebrate our independence? Is there a treasured tradition you follow or do you engage in the most American of activities, which is to say, exercising your God-given right to lay flat on your ass, drinking beers, and watching sports?
Me, I'll watch '1776', again, and then fight the urge for the rest of the day to shout "For God's sake John (Boehner), sit down!"
Whatever you may do, may you be Blessed with a bounty of family, friends, and free exercise of your God-given rights.
