Exit Polls Show Conservatives Winning Narrowly or Winning Big in England
As if it matters.
Exit poll results released late Thursday after a nationwide vote to pick Britain’s next Parliament showed the Conservatives with a surprisingly commanding lead, just short of a majority and in a strong position to hang onto power.
The results suggested that the Tories would win 316 seats in the 650-member Parliament, compared with 239 for the opposition Labor Party. With those results, the Conservatives, led by Prime Minister David Cameron, would still need allies to cobble together a majority and renew their lease on 10 Downing Street after five years in office.
It looks like Labour will be, as expected, "routed" in Scotland. It had previously owned the Scottish vote; now it's losing everywhere to the Scottish Nationlists. Who are leftwing, but apparently this complicates matters for the left as regards putting together a government.
Other exit polls put the Tories head by a smaller figure, with 284 constituencies, but with their allies', the Liberal Democrats', constituencies, they'd be at 315.
