Operation to Capture (or Not Capture) Charlie Hebdo Terrorists Underway
Operation Fails? Terrorists Already Fled?
At Reims:
A police operation with RAID is underway in Reims
An police operation aimed at the arrest of the suspects in the attack against Charlie Hebdo was underway at Reims at around 11 pm (French time -- about 5 pm eastern), stated an officer of RAID [a SWAT-like police unit] to AFP.
The police are going to begin the operation. Or, predicted by the police and the social networks, the suspects have fled, or cleared out," stated an officer of Raid, calling upon reporters to exhibit "the greatest discretion."
Earlier Allah posted something from somewhere and wanted to know what it said. I translated the first half already, but here's the whole thing:
This regards three men aged 18, 32, and 34. The two thirtysomethings,
of French nationality, are brothers born in the 10th arrondissement (ward) of Paris. Their first names are Said and Cherif K. The nationality of the youngest, Hamyd M., homeless, is not known. This last was enrolled in (stuff about the school follows, which means nothing to me, except it's in Reims). The Union in Ardennais indicated by the end of the afternoon that RAID (French SWAT) was going to the vicinity of Reims.
One of the alleged attackers, Cherif K, is well known to the police. He had been tried in 2005 for having been part of a network for sending jihadis to Iraq, "the network of the 19th arrondissement of Paris." With a dozen others, he had, between 2003 and 2005 incited a dozen youths to go to war in Iraq. He had been arreste in 2005 at the moment when he himself was supposed to leave for Iraq. At the time, he explained to the (tribunal) "The closer the time to depart for Iraq approached, the more I wanted to go back (home). But if I chickened out, I risked being taken for a coward," Cherif K. had explained to the (tribunal). He had been sentenced to three years, of which eighteen months were suspended.
Another Picture of the Operation in Reims:
Here's a map showing Reims in relation to Paris:
Gone? I believe that these pictures show SWAT exiting the building they were searching, and then returning to their personnel carrier. But I'm not sure.
But it looks like the operation failed.
