Projection: Boehner Re-Elected Speaker of the House »
January 06, 2015
Florida Representative Daniel Webster Now Running for Speaker of the House?
Voting Starts Any Minute Now
Webster is known as something of a moderate so he would presumably be acceptable to the wing currently claiming that we daren't reject Boehner, for everyone else is Teh Crazy.
Oh, he's a "secret candidate:"
Apparently they've been counting on him as a Stalking Horse for this vote but didn't want to tip their hand too early -- Boehner is known to retaliate against members considered disloyal.
Why just yesterday Steve King (one of Teh Crazies who think we can do better than Boehner) was plumping Daniel Webster as a plausible Speaker.
Representative Steve King (R., Iowa) wants conservative lawmakers to rally around Florida representative Daniel Webster in a last-minute bid to oust House speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio).
Webster "understands that the role of any leader is to bring out the will of the group, not to impose their will on the group," King tells National Review Online, adding that he has been discussing the idea with Webster for over two years...
Webster was elected in 2010 with the help of Jeb Bush, who described him as "a true conservative and one of the most principled people I’ve ever met."
The Vote: Is on CSPAN, momentarily.
Vote's On: I have no idea how to tally this.
Meadows votes for Not Bohener. This was a vote the Not Boehner people had hoped for, but did not quite have.
17 Republican votes have gone to Not Boehner. We're in the N's. 29 sinks Boehner, but it's looking unlikely.
This "Daniel Webster" play did not attract many votes at all. Only two that I can remember.
Whoops, Webster just got a vote, from Nugent, another vote the Not Boehner coalition was hoping for, but couldn't count on.
Up to 20. They're nine away, but they're in the R's now.
