French Paper: US Security On Heightened Alert? American Media Targeted by IS
Update: NBC Reported It As Well; Police, Soldiers, Intelligence Personnel Also Warned to be On Alert for Attacks Against Them Personally

Update: NBC posted this story around five hours ago.

Feds Warn of ISIS-Inspired Threat Against Police, Reporters in US

Federal officials have warned that ISIS-inspired terrorists may be weighing "lone wolf" attacks against police, government officials and "media figures" inside the U.S.

According to a Joint Intelligence bulletin from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security sent to U.S. law enforcement officials, an ISIS spokesman recorded an audio message that urged lone offenders in Western countries to attack "soldiers, patrons, and troops … their police, security and intelligence members."

...

Also in September, according to the bulletin, an ISIS supporter posted a document in an ISIS-dominated web forum advocating "open source jihad" and "lone wolf operations" by U.S. Muslims against "a list of potential targets, including military, law enforcement, FBI personnel, government officials and media figures."

The bulletin said officials were not aware of any specific, credible threat against U.S. targets by home-grown extremists inside the U.S. or overseas...

So an American media company reported this before I mentioned it (but after Le Figaro, which reported it around noon-ish US Eastern time).

It looks like I goofed the translation -- based on this report, it seems like US security personnel were being warned to look out for their own safety, too, which I missed. I thought the report was saying security personnel should be looking out just for attacks on others.

I'll look to see where I screwed that up and correct the translation.
...

I'm getting it from Le Figaro.

IS threatens the American homeland

American security organizations are in a state of alert regarding the risk of attacks carried out by "lone wolves."

Washington, already largely bogged down in the Iraq/Syrian conflict, has a new worry. The fear of attacks carried out by the "lone wolves," American jihadists newly returned from the Middle East, has just taken a turn towards the real with a warning to security personnel to be on a state of alert, after the alarm sounded by the FBI and Homeland Security.

This warning resulted from a litany of messages exchanged on Islamic forums between militants published on the social networks by IS, calling for its sympathizers to bring war to the very homeland of the "infidels." Chiefly targeting the journalists of the biggest American media companies, declared biased, islamophobic, and war-mongering. Similar statements made by the militant fundamentalists arrested in the UK and Australia had pricked up the ears of the Americans.*

Since Monday morning, the symbols of American power and the headquarters of the largest media companies (Washington Post, CNN) have an increased security presence, while social networks and cell phone traffic is being sifted through by the NSA (....) even more than usual. Ironic change of fortune for the agency, which has been on the hotseat since the revelations of the former analyst Edward Snowden...

What the heck are they talking about? I don't see anything like this on the US news.

Maybe this piece is supposed to be about the "general mood of the country" or something, and isn't supposed to be taken as breaking news. Maybe this all just refers to the country's jitters since that September 23 warning.

But I don't remember hearing anything about increased vigilance at media companies.

And why do they say "since Monday morning"?

* They say "grandes oreilles," with the quotes, like it's slang. They may mean this has caught the attention of the NSA's "Big Ears," i.e., their surveillance apparatus. They might mean it as a joke -- these events have put "the bug in the Big Ears [of the NSA]."

I don't know what they mean. I'm just a little past the je veux un sandwich level of skill.
