2014 Gubernatorial Races [Y-not]
Obama's border crisis and the Democrats' terrible economy have brought the importance of governorships into sharp focus. Republicans hold a majority of governorships, with 29 seats. Interestingly, of the five women who are governors of U.S. states, four are Republican to only one Democrat (Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire).
Why do the Democrats hate women executives? Perhaps they need a bigger binder. #WarOnWomen indeed.
Which governorships are up for grabs this year? Here's a roundup courtesy of the National Governors Association:
In 2014, gubernatorial elections will be held in 36 states and three territories. There are 31 incumbent governors eligible to run for reelection and eight incumbent governors who are term-limited or have announced they will not seek reelection.
I'm sure CAC will be doing some prognostication about the likelihood of the GOP gaining or losing governorships. But in the meantime, what are you observing in your home states? Is your state up for grabs?
In theory, the Republican Governors Association should be well-positioned to help keep states red:
The Republican Governors Association announced today a record breaking amount of cash on hand, with $70.3 million heading into the height of the 2014 election cycle. With $26.6 million raised in the second quarter of 2014, the RGA considerably outpaced its fundraising from 2010, the last comparable election cycle, and topped its own second quarter fundraising record.
Let's see if RGA Chairman, Chris Christie (D-Donutland), can show us some party loyalty and political acumen and flip some of those states RED.
Open thread to talk politics.
