Sunday Travel Thread: Sound of Music Edition [Y-not]
Greetings and welcome to your travel thread. Today's topic is favorite places and is brought to you by budget travel:
Here at Casa Y-not our prospects for a "real" vacation were blown out of the water by some family issues, so we'll be staying close to home and enjoying our state through day trips and the like. We're lucky that there's a lot to do here... but a bit unlucky because normally the month that's best for travel is July, when many of the things we'd like to see are crowded and hot.
Had we been able to pull off a vacation, we would have probably gone to Hawaii. If you haven't been, it's awesome. We especially like the Big Island which has a nice mix of resorts, natural areas, and places where real people seem to live.
Since I can't plan a vacation this year, I thought I'd live vicariously through your vacation plans. To get us started, courtesy of Mashable, here's a list of the Top 10 U.S. Summer Travel Destinations for 2014 based on a survey of TripAdvisor users.
Key West is one of the top destinations for 2014
For those of you who don't feel like following the link this list in reverse order is: Key West, San Diego, San Francisco, Virginia Beach, Orlando, Ocean City Maryland, Destin Florida, New York City, Las Vegas, and Myrtle Beach. Basically a mix of beachy places and big cities. My family were more mountain and woods type vacationers, but I suppose there is no one iconic destination that reflects that.
Where do you think you'll be headed this summer? Where do you WISH you could be going?
To wrap things up, here's Julie Andrews singing about her favorite things:
