Zakn kinda covered most of what I was going to post about last night so this is a little short and it's video heavy. That being said, even if you don't understand EVE or even videogames in general, this right here is a great read
For the SuperBowl, there are two things to play along with while watching. Fancake (IOS/Android)and CBS Sports PrePlay (IOS/Android). They both cover the same thing so pick your poison. What it amounts to is you pick the plays before they happen and you get points if you're right.
NINTENDO INVESTMENT MEETING
• A quick Q&A with Iwata and Nikkei. Main thing to take away from it is that Nintendo might be willing to actually spend some money buying stuff.
• In a good will gesture, everyone at the top of Nintendo is taking a pay cut. It will be the second time in three years that Iwata will be cutting his pay due to bad business.
• The DLC for the Wii U version of Batman: Arkham Origins has been canceled.
• Nintendo announced that DS games will be heading to the Wii U. That may sound okay from a quick reaction point of view but if you owned a DS XL, you will know that the games for that handheld really can't be blown up.
• Nintendo also announced that they're getting into the Health industry with non-wearable consumer devices. I don't get it either as it completely goes against the grain with the current market with wearable devices.
• Nintendo did firm up some release dates. Mario Kart 8 is out in May. Super Smash Bros. by the end of the year
NEWS
• Microsoft finally bought the Gears of War IP and have set Black Tusk (who were working on a spy based third person game) to make another entry in the series. Do you want another entry in the series is another matter as it kinda petered out after the second game.
• Considering their current status of being pretty much dead, it doesn't surprise me that they're shutting down all of their English channels. Sad shame that they've gone this way but it is what it is. Not many companies can claim to have been the best at what they did for 20 years.
• As we're about to get the first Monster Monpiece here in the states, the second game comes out in Japan in a few months. Can't tell what is goofier, the dildo bat in Saints Row or a vibrator sword in this game
• After Testament, I don't know if I want a new Sherlock Holmes game from Frogwares but here is the first trailer for the next entry, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishment
• New footage of Dark Souls 2. Can't wait for this to come out, hopefully it doesn't get crushed in the tidal wave in March.
• A whole ton of new Xbox One rumors last week as someone started singing on NeoGAF:
They're working on a console that has a 1TB HDD but has no disc drive which may tie into another rumor that the console might be getting a price drop later in the year.
Forza Horizons 2 out sometime in September.
First major update is in March (fits with the scheduling that they've used on the 360).
Halo 5 isn't coming out this year but Halo 2: Anniversary Edition is.
• Zelda: Four Swords is out now on the 3DS. It's free till the end of the day and if you know others with a 3DS, it's very much worth the download.
• BenK made me hip to this entry from this year's Global Game Jam called Not Everything is Flammable And you know, it's a pretty interesting concept. It's worth the quick download and farting around a few times.
• Good cinematic from Bethesda for the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online
• Riot is now touting that their League of Legends is bringing in about 27 million gamers each day.
• Harebrained Schemes finally announced the first expansion pack to Shadowrun. It's called Dragonfall and it's out on February 27th
• Moody was the next group to set Sony's stock to junk status (Ba1 status to be precise).
• In non-shocking news, Ndemic Creations announced that their award winning Plague Inc. is coming to the PC in a bigger and badder version titled Plague Inc. Evolved
Random Stuff
I did pick up two new (to me and my friends) boardgames this week.
Mice and Mystics which is an interesting co-op story driven RPG-lite. It's pretty interesting in how it blends a full blown story with a gameboard.
And the second game I bought was Tsuro of the Seas. I own the original Tsuro which is a fun tactical abstract tile laying game which is perfect when you want to play a game but don't want to be too tied up in it. This one adds the wrinkle of having sea monsters which adds quite a bit of randomness and speeds up the game and frankly, makes it a bit more fun IMO.
NEW RELEASES
Fable Anniversary (360) - It's Fable but updated. Eh. Don't get me wrong, I liked the game when it came out but it was far surpassed by the second game.
Bravely Default (3DS) - Biggest release of the week. It's Square trying to bring back what they used to do which is fun RPGs. I'm ready to pick up my collector's edition this week.
The LEGO Movie Videogame (PS3, PS4, Wii U, 3DS, 360 and Xbox One) - The glut of LEGO videogames continues.
Fables: A Wolf Among Us Episode 2 (PC, 360, PS3, Vita iOS) - Should this be here as a "new release" probably not but it's been four months since the first episode was released. If you're waiting for the full season before diving in, see you next year.
That's it, I'm out
