White House To Try Bold, Never-Before-Used Obamacare Strategy On Enrollment Figures: Straight-Up Lying

You're not going to believe this because it's so totally out of character for this administration, but the White House is planning on massaging its numbers on Obamacare enrollment.

When the Obama administration releases health law enrollment figures later this week, though, it will use a more expansive definition. It will count people who have purchased a plan as well as those who have a plan sitting in their online shopping cart but have not yet paid.

You know what Amazon doesn't do? Count products in my shopping cart as "sales".

Anyway, the numbers are coming out later in the week and by all accounts it's going to be ugly. Less than 3% of the target goal has been achieved thus far, which appears to be less than 50,000 people.

President Barack Obama's healthcare reform has reached only about 3 percent of its enrollment target for 2014 in 12 U.S. states where new online health insurance marketplaces are mostly working smoothly, a report released on Monday said.

States with functioning exchanges have signed up 49,100 people compared with the 1.4 million people expected to be enrolled for 2014, according to the report by healthcare research and consultancy firm Avalere Health.
