Gaming Thread

Busy week for me as I've been looking at rental properties so I can move my workshop and maybe a retail part but that doesn't mean I couldn't get some gaming in. One of my iRacing leagues has started their championships which I blew a tire out on and got a DNF......yeah. I did finish up my Sorceress play-through in Dragon's Crown, a lot of fun though man is it tricky at the end playing as her as I kept getting cornered. Still have the New Game+ to get through so I can see the ending. Also have been playing a bit of Plants VS Zombies 2 on my iPad which has been good so far, no need yet for buying the IAP.

With the new consoles, looking forward to the new news to come out of Gamescon (Euro videogame event) this upcoming weekend.

Anyways, gaming stuff below.....

NEWS

The best horror game in recent history's follow up, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs gets a locked in release date and price. Out next month on the 10th at $20 (20% off for pre-orders). It's already up on GOG and Steam

Sony signs their first piece of their upcoming IPTV service with Viacom jumping on board

Playable female soldiers for multiplayer in the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts

Humble and EA has teamed up last week for a charity bundle. It's really good, $1 minimum for a copy of Dead Space 3 isn't bad. They've already raised $6.4 million for charity (as of this writing)

Gamestop starts selling "used" copies of Metroid Prime Trilogy and Xenoblade Chronicles that they found in the back of a warehouse (aka reprints). No discounts as they're priced at market going rate of $90 for Xenoblade and $85 for Metroid Prime Trilogy.

New trailer for the upcoming Fantasia Evolution. Also announced that Inon Zur (Fallout 3 and Dragon Age: Origins) will be doing the orchestral music for the game.

On one hand, good for Microsoft in being honest that they're scaling back in how many countries will get the One at launch. On the other, they really should have just done a paper launch in the missing 8 countries. No stock is a better ding than a delayed launch.

And Microsoft continues to make me not care about the Xbox One with all of their walkbacks, this time about the mandatory connected Kinect

The convergence of console and pc gaming continues as Microsoft talked about the cooling solution of the upcoming XBox One

Really good cinematic for the upcoming Witcher 3

Iwata comes clean that the price on the Wii U isn't the problem but "I understand that the real issue is the lack of software, and the only solution is to provide the mass-market with a number of quality software titles."

A trailer for the upcoming Fables game, A Wolf Among Us has come out. Can't say it looks that great in motion

New Releases

This week we have a few big games out this week:

Disney's Skylander clone called Infinity which is rumored to cost have 100+ million came out this morning with a bunch of figures and packs of power discs. Run you $75 for the game (comes with 3 figures: Mr. Incredible, Jack Sparrow and Sully), $30 for a three pack of figures (there are two of them), $35 for the Lone Ranger and Cars playsets and then $13 each for the four figures that aren't in any playsets/three packs (Dash, Violet, Mater and Francesco). And then there are the power discs which $5 per pack that contains 2 random ones out of 30 (ten of those are Toys R Us exclusives). There are some differences in the games like the 3DS version is Mario Party instead of action-adventure and the Wii version will not be updated at all. This week, Target is running half price playsets and TRU has buy one figure get one half off and packs of power discs at buy one and get another for a buck. I think that covers everything they released today with a ton more stuff hitting shelves in October. Will it be a windfall for Disney? Skylander's arch of profits have started to go down so hopefully this new flavor will keep the premise profitable until Nintendo actually gets off their duff to do a Pokemon version. Out for everything other than the Vita and PC.

What was once supposed to be an expansion pack/DLC for Saints Row 3 morphed into a new full blown entry in the series with Saints Row 4 where Johnny Gat is now the President of the United States of America to fight off an alien invasion. Purple dildo bats ahoy. They're releasing two special editions ($100 and $150 respectivly) which come with a replica dubstep gun, doomsday button and a 9" Johnny Gat Memorial statue. And for $50 more, you get a plexiglass display case that lights up and rotates. Also buy it in the first 48 hours from Gamestop and you get a code for Abe Lincoln, Barack Obama and GWB rubber masks. Out for PS3, 360 and PC at $60, Super Dangerous Wub Wub Edition at $100 and the Game of the Generation Edition at $150 (which I'm pretty sure has been sold out for a month or so).

Well, it's gone through a few changes since they announced it three years ago and even more changes since they started to work on it in 06 but the forgotten X-Com game comes out even with the "afterthought" game from Firaxis came out last year to critical allcaim. People forget that Enemy Unknown was always framed as a band-aid to please X-Com fans and to tide people over till this game came out. And of course with the accolades that Enemy Unkown picked up, this game has now been forgotten. Made by the people behind Bioshock 2. Out this week for PC, PS3 and the 360 for the standard $60.

Ubisoft drops the next entry into the Splinter Cell series which is a reboot of sort with a look at the birth of Sam Fisher as superspy. They went dark on talking about it and the marketing has been non-existant post E3 but Splinter Cell: Blacklist comes out for every console that matters and the PC. They're also releasing a collector's edition with a remote controlled airplane for $170.

The joke that went too far, DiveKick is hitting the PSN (Vita and PS3 with crossbuy) and PC this week for $10. It's a fighting game with two buttons: Jump and Kick. I like fighting games but this honestly doesn't interest me to be frank. People who have played say it's legit though.

That about wraps it up,
The Dude
