US Navy

Twenty six US Navy ship naming controversies. It's only gotten worse these last 5 years. I'd stick to naming them after famous battles, states, and cities. And really cool names like Devastator, Executor, etc.

Although, it sounds like it wont' be too much of a problem going forward with budget cuts and shipbuilding in decline.

The bottom line remains the same: the Navy is retiring more ships than it plans to build in the President’s 2014 budget request. Over the next five years, the Navy hopes to build 41 ships -- that is if sequestration is repealed or replaced -- but will retire 42 during the same period.

Whereas two years ago the administration planned to build 57 ships over five years, last year’s plan shrank to 41 new ships. This year’s five-year plan treads water at 41 new construction ships again.

Drug Mule

How much cocaine can you fit in your body?

Typically a packer or mule will carry about 50-100 of these packets, but folks have been caught carrying in excess of 200--as much as five pounds, concealed in the gastrointestinal tract.

Backup Irony

I bet this dude is rethinking his thesis on the dangers of cloud computing when someone steals his laptop with the only copy of his thesis.

Iranian Air Force

Heh. F-14, F-4 and F-5 jets: not the US Navy of the 70's but Iranian Air Force of today. Still pretty sweet to see a Tomcat.

Drunkest Countries

The top 25 drunkest countries. It's like all of Europe and Russia with South Korea being the lone Asian country. The US placed #56 with 2.49 gal/per person. Clearly, this is another reason why we need to curtail immigration.

Speaking of drinking, I need to find out if my local PD is doing this. Drunk volunteers help police train in Suffolk county.

Sniper App

An app that uses a smartphone, microphones and shockwave sensors to locate a sniper. Hmmm. They say it will be good for dignitary protection but that is only true if the sniper misses the first shot and actually sticks around after firing.
