Mystery Swirls Around Greatest Video Ever Shot Mystery Dispelled: It's All Too Real
So... is this real, or not?Update: My sarcastic skepticism aside, it seems real. Update: I take that back. I don't believe it. If they look young-ish in the video, it's just good make-up. This cannot be real.
It could be fake in two ways: First, they were just having us on and meant to be silly, so the joke's partly on us.
Second, they were having us on, and also, it's not from the 80s, but from like three months ago.
Their website claims, again, it was shot in 1986 (but MTV refused to air it, the dastards) and even runs some suspiciously cleanly digital pictures from their 1986 photo shoot. Because, you know. Everyone has pictures from 1986 lying around.
They also have the first few minutes of their 1994 (?) film, Sister Sensei. Which is not listed on imdb, before you check.
The "movie" also appears to be not-quite-serious in tone.
Oh: Anna Puma linked this -- Kristen Dunst, dressed in a Japanese Schoolgirl Cosplay outfit, doing a cover of "Turning Japanese" for some Japanese pop-art exhibit, directed by McG.
Before I link it, I have to give you a Not Safe For Work Advisory. Although Dunst is on the safe side of sexy (though definitely sexed up), the video includes a lot of porn hentai cartoon images which are on posters and painted on walls in the district in Tokyo in which the video was shot. These images are themselves pornographic.
How does she sing? Well, her auto-tuning and multi-tracking and recording artifacts are on fire. Of course that's not really the point; the point is her bouncing around in a cosplay outfit.
Real? The dates of Holly's bio, and the picture showing her years older, as well as Dave's similarly aged current picture are starting to suggest this video is... all too real, despite my skepticism.
REAL?! @johntant explains this isn't an entirely amateur affair -- David Seeger's father is Hal Seeger, who had an animation studio. He did Milton the Monster.
This would explain the animated dog and animated parakeet, which I thought must be computer-stuff. But having a a dad who does cartoons would take care of it.
I assumed these guys were total amateurs so only modern software could explain it. The Seegers weren't total amateurs, though, and had access to expertise.
