Racing, Maybe? Gaming Thread (Also Open)

Afternoon Horde,

Not alot from me this week. If you would like to do a write up for the "Weekly" Gaming post, be sure to shoot it to aoshqgaming at gmail dot com . I have been working with a Moron on a Racing Post, but it's not quite ready yet. Maybe next week. Have a wonderful Sunday! -Zakn

Hello, it's the dude with tons of news and small amount of space to talk about it.

It looks like we have our first video game directed by Alan Smithee. And even with a shitty campaign and multiplayer, it's not even worth the rental to trudge through a 6 hour campaign.

In news no one ever expected, System Shock 2 got a re-release. Currently up on GOG for $9.99 with a Steam release sooner or later. Story is still great but I have to admit that I don't think the game play has aged all that well.

Today marks the unveiling of Bungie's new game, Destiny. Also get come pretty concept art

And Jeff Gerstman talking about it

Real Racing 3 gets released this weekend it will be f2p. It's currently in beta in New Zealand which is a good thing as people bitched about the wait times and then promptly got fixed.

Well, the Nintendo WiiU is really in the shit as Gamesutra claims that in a 5 week January, it only sold between 50-60k units. For comparison's sake, the Vita only sold 35k in the same period, 360 has never dropped below 100k and the worst month the PS3 ever had was about 80k. On one hand, Iwata needs to go but on the other, it will probably mean Yamauchi will probably take over again which is an even worse proposition.

What can be expected with this week's unveiling of the PS4:

BC - WSJ has said that it will be streaming with Gaikai's tech (considering how fucked up the PS4 artitecture is, it's the best option)

Home - The thing that no one you know uses really has been raking in the cash. It would be idiotic not to bring it over. And hell, Sony still uses it to stream their conferences and they just released a companion app for the still dead Vita.

New controller - We already got prototype photos of it. Still don't understand the usage of a touch-pad though, especially with the size of it

Killzone - Hopefully they learned from the horribly bullshot version of Killzone from the the PS3 unveiling but it is Sony so eh. Been awhile since Guerrilla Games have gone dark and they've got two teams now (one working on Killzone: Mercenary). Hopefully this time they have the gameplay to back up the series's visuals (fourth time's the charm).

Media/OS - Media, media, media. In this day and age, you can't release a console that doesn't play tons of media apps and exclusive content. And when games are increasingly becoming more and more expensive, you really need to expand the consumer base (best selling console, PS2 has only moved 153 million units ). And with Sony owning tons of tv studios, movie and music companies, they are in a good position to finally get off their ass to actually get it to be cohesive. Hopefully they finally make an OS that isn't a piece of crap, usability is one of the biggest reasons why people have no problem paying for Live on the 360.

Packed in mic - It looks like there is a mic jack on the new controller prototype so hopefully they don't make the same folly of not having a mic packed it. With it, it makes multiplayer actually worth playing and it on the PS3 is a barren wasteland of no one using a mic even though it's very much needed in today's games. If they're going the way of Sony's usual kitchensink way of design, they really can't cheap out on this.

Packed in EyeToy - They have a new one being made which sounds like it's still going to be really cheap, why not throw it in? It gives the perception of increased value in the box and why else would you build in a Move tracker into the controller? Throw in the rumors that the new Xbox will have a pack in Kinect and it will help on the multiplats

There, not a wall of text (at least for me)
