Nerds in Vegas? Srsly?-Gaming Thread!

Good afternoon my friends! I was told by Radish to not type so loud, so this will be a subdued thread. (No not really)

I made it back from Eve Vegas, wallet a little lighter, brain a little cloudier, and liver further on the brink. AKA the Moron Lifestyle. I also got to attend some fun lectures by Game Devs and Players alike. All in All I had an absolute blast, and helped fund the local economy. Time to eat mac and cheese to save back up.

Also, since the fucking hotel only had CNN, holy hell they are terrible. I'd rather watch the hacks on MSLSD any day of the week than the idiots on that channel. And my oh my the political adds.

More below the fold

Zakn here...So what have I been playing?

Well besides EVE, I've been playing Faster than Light. A Roguelike game, it's easy to pick up, put down, and still is highly engrossing. At times I swear the game is trolling me. I make it out of one encounter, to only have the game double down on making life miserable. I thought I had ship boarders figured out (I blow the hostaes and kill them that way), and then I get boarded by space spiders or robots....

It's available on Steam or Thier Website if you don't want to give Gabe a cut. It's 10 bucks, and well worth it imho

One last mention about Eve: The Moron Channel. It's AoSHQ hang with your fellow morons in game. Been loving chilling with everyone.

Walking Dead Episode 4 is coming up soon. Really been loving it. If you haven't picked it up yet....well I just don't know

Thats all I have this week. If you are knowledgeable about re-hydrating via IV, lemme know.

Greetings fellow morons/ettes,

Java JoeX here, with computer games dominating the threads I thought an old fashioned board wargames thread was something that some of the grognards lurking out there might want to see. WW2 has been and always will be my passion. My heroes of youth wore olive green and fought Nazis in the greatest struggles of mankind. The history is written but the myriad of ‘what ifs’ have endless scenarios. How best to simulate any given ‘what if’ than a look into battle plans and the outcome?

These simulations put YOU into the chair of the commander and make the choices they made or didn’t make. Normandy the best place to land on D-Day? Free the Panzer Divisions to counter attack Normandy? Fate plays a role in every military campaign, the dice choose your fate.

I want to introduce my absolute favorite, if I was stuck on a desert Island, must have game. The Gamers/MMP’s SCS Afrika II Has been my absolute favorite. The Standard Combat Series of games published by MMP offers a simpler lever of play. With just four pages of rules it allows you to play any of the series scenarios with little time spent memorizing. The basics of maneuver, combat and supply are spelled out concisely with little need to know military jargon.

Afrika 2 covers the African campaign 1940- 1942 beginning with the Italian Invasion of Egypt to the Siege of Tobruk. Scenario specific rules further detail the different units’ sizes, their supply considerations terrain bonuses and other interesting tidbits. Italian Divisions as an example require twice the supply other normal units would.
This scenario gives both sides the chance to be the fist and the face, early in the game the lumbering Italians run into Egypt but their supply is critically low. Forced to attack by Il Duce they are met by O'Conner's 7th Armored Div. Also making it’s debut is the SAS a small special forces unit that wreaks havoc with Axis supply lines. The Italians will be surrendering en mass as the Allies roll unopposed.

Not to worry though the Desert Fox’s arrival gives the Axis the chance to roll up all that was lost pushing the Brits to the brink of disaster. Will Rommel be able to break through to Alexander or Cairo?

Variable events regarding supply, reinforcements and air strength don’t allow players to calculate the exact moment a unit arrives or is due to be sent to another theater.

Now I just hope I remember to seal this game in a waterproof container to survive the disaster.
Thank You for your attention, you can follow me on twitter @javajoex

Thats it for this week, If you have something you want to write about for the weekly gaming thread write it up and send it to aoshqgaming at gmail dot com
