Every Rifter Counts, Friend- Gaming Thread!

Good Afternoon/Evening Moron Horde!

I want to thank Ace. Ben for posting it on the sidebar, and every other M&M that re-tweeted the fundraiser for Sean "Vile Rat" Smith's Widow and small children. The fundraising goal has almost been reached (erm they moved it to 150k), so if you have 5, 10, whatever bucks kick it to help out his family. Link I love this community.

More below the fold.

Alright. So Gaming shiz.

Know your Zakn....I was on Crossing Zebras podcast covering the nullsec wars in the North and South. I made one mistake, but mostly it's inside baseball because the Alliance I'm in (Gents), grew into it's own under Test. We have been more closely allied with Goons because of where we live as of late, but I'm still a fan of Test. Linky. It was a weird deal doing a podcast. There was no outline, just log into Skype and field Questions and react. By the end I even mental farted on GSOL (Goon Logistics), but it was a neat experience and I enjoyed doing it. So Props to Xander for having me.

The War in the North Stands as I talked about it there. It's a grind and a game of Conkers, aka if you do something dumb, you pay.

On the Eve Front. I am openly recruiting Morons & Ettes. Join the AoSHQ channel and talk to Anyone with a Paxton tag. Newbies Welcome. We'll help you out with books, Ships, all that stuff. If you play WoW, now is the time to head into the real War. We'll help you out Time to head into the Breach, my friends.

Walking Dead. Episode 3 Is pretty Awesome. I don't want to spoil stuff. But Harder decisions. I like that. In a 5 episode Arc, Episode 3 is going to be the bellwether. It's a great game. Buy it if you haven't!

Also I want to plug Eve Vegas. We got all HuffandaBluff about who is attending. The largest Attendant is Non-Aligned. I personally am excited to hang out with my Gents bros and throw the bones. We'll see how it goes.

Here's The Dude

Yeah, it's me again, some random duder on the net to talk games.
Well, Steam announced the first accepted games through the Greenlight thing. Very nice to see Project Zomboid and Routine make it through. Black Mesa also getting through is interesting as it's not complete though they released what they have so far. They announce the second batch of winners on October 10th.
Couple quick thumbs up for Inquisition and FTL. Found it interesting that they give you the option of not being a torturer in Inquistion, you don't have to be uber douche if you have a soft soul even though the gates of Hell has opened up. Gameplay is oldschool Diablo with a magic and stat system that walks the line of really oldschool cRPG and Arcanum. Pretty graphics if you don't mind isometric cRPGs. FTL on the other hand is pure bliss as it marries the classic rouguelike with space exploration and with a good sized helping of management dressing (placing your crew in the departments they're attuned with, and power and money management). And outside of the standard rouguelike carrot, they even added upgrades and different shuttles). Inquistion is $14.99 at GOG and FLT is $9.99.

Well, Nintendo had their big unveiling of the Wii U and they're finally rolling with tech from 06 priced at $299 for the standard edition which comes with a 8 gig HDD built in and a $350 edition with a 32 gig HDD. Still nothing announced coming for it that I can get the mustard to get hyped about, could if have killed Capcom to announce Monster Hunter 4 instead of a rehash of MoHu 3? And I've grown a dislike for 2d Marios as for the most part they just come off as cheap cash ins using old assets. Once again, I can't but help to think that it will end up having one or two games a year to play because the third party support is shit (been that way since GC, N64 if you discount the AKI's wrestling games). The built in Tivo and DVR is really nice though, which I expect the other two to have in their upcoming systems.

After a week of a teaser site, Obsidian finally announced their kickstarter. The gang of Black Isle studios is back together and they're going to their honey well of an isometric RPG which is even running on the Infinity engine. Such awesome news that quickly had the 1.1 million they asked backed in about 24 hours. With it currently sitting at just over $1.8 million, it will be interesting in seeing how high the total goes.

In news that will shock no one, the Baldur's Gate remaster has been pushed back till November (which it will then be pushed back even farther). I have no hopes for it myself.

The fabled Fire Pro Wrestling franchise finally returned this past week as an avatarded release. Like many others, I scoffed at the game when they showed it over the past few years as it looked nothing like the second best wrestling franchise ever (still partial to AKI's wrestling games on the N64). Well, everyone was correct, it isn't FPW of old but you can't dismiss it off hand as it's decent wrestler in it's own right, especially with it's $10 price point.
Can't wait for next week as Tokyo Jungle finally gets released in the West. Looking forward to it.

Capcom announced an expansion pack to Dragon's Dogma at the TGS. Really loved the game with it's logical improvements to the Monster Hunter gameplay. Just wish it sold better

In sad news, Tetsuya Mizuguchi has stepped away from making games. Don't know what to say but damn. Outside of the disapointing first N3 game (didn't work to either to his or Phantagram's strengths), he knocked everything out of the park. And if you own a Kinect but didn't buy Child of Eden....shame on you as it was the best experiance of last year. Marrying Rez with tripped out hand movements and new Genki Rockets music was gud. On the plus side, maybe we get new Genki Rockets music on a regular basis.

The less I say about Guild Wars 2 the better. I hit 80 and outside of combat (which is quite fun), the game fucking blows. Shit dungeons, lack of variety on quests and the big badass dragon who is the protaginist ends up in a battle that constitues as a turkey shoot to close out the game. What a fucking farce that bullshit was. And with no end game content outside of getting mats for a legendary weapon that has no stat upgrades, the game will very quickly be a ghost town. ANet failed on almost every level of designing a MMO.
At least getting into the HAWKEN alpha test will sooth some of the pain.
