Gaming Thread, Diablo 3 Edition

Afternoon 'Rons and 'Ettes. Your Trusty team of Gaming Morons has New Content to serve your needs!

Zakn here manning the helm!

Now that Blizzard seems to have gotten their Server situation fixed, Diablo 3 has kinda taken over. In Eve, our killboards have really slowed down, as everyone is playing D3. Only to log into Eve when Jabber "Pings" for fleets or Defensive operations. It is quite comical. Here's an example: directorbot@goonfleet.com/directorbot: Heyo, I know all of you are playing Diablo3 and Dust beta but a big brawl is kicking off -- please login for an hour to play some Eve Online

Myself, I did not receive a Dust 514 key as of yet which really doesn't matter because I don't have a PS3, but I have friends. i think.

The Steam Group is going strong. We had our largest turnout yet for Moron Tf2 night on Friday. We are going to take this week off. The Server admin isn't going to be around, and I want to get some Overtime. However, If you admin a server, and are willing to give us some time, Post about it in the Steam Group and I'll work out the details with you there. TIA

Lets go ahead and get to the content portion of this Post :)

I talked a little Diablo 3. If you haven't bought it because of the Blizzard errors, it seems they have mostly fixed them. I'm not even lagging out in big fights. So if that describes you, Go buy it. Its a fantastic game. I had total flash backs to Steam/Half Life 2's release. I get why they did it. Part of it is piracy, but the always on connection probably has more to do with the game not being hacked and duping items. I can see why they are especially antsy about this because of the Auction House and the Real Money Transaction stuff. I can see them wanting to protect the integrity of the game and the economy. I did the Open Beta thing, and I had problems then. They should have known the game was going to be popular as heck. So yea. They should have gotten it right the first time, but whatever, I'm not going to Occupy Reddit about it.

I will also add, I think they really got the "Death Mechanic" right. The Crafting mechanic is interesting, so we'll see how that goes forward. I think I put too much money into it too early, as my Smith is starting to make things I can't equip for 5+ levels (oops).

I can see how the game will be fairly re-playable at the different difficulties. And in Multi-player. And in PvP when they add that feature eventually. It is definatly fun to be immersed in the Diablo world again. Seeing Tyrael and Hearing Dekard again is really wonderful.

The game is down right beautiful in some parts. I just finished Act 1 and here's the Cut Scene. ~~Spoiler Warning~~ (but it's nothing really game spoiling, so if you are on the fence, check it out)

I won't get into it too much because I don't want to Spoil.

I know some 'ettes said they like to play games with their kids, this probably isn't the game for that. There's alot of gore. Frankly maybe i'm just getting older (soft), but some of it seems a little excessive to me (probably just because I went through the torture level/Butcher fight). Not stomach turning, but it's a thing. If you are looking for a similar game that isn't nearly as violent, or Gory. Check out Torchlight when it goes on sale, or Torchlight 2 when it comes out. That game is very well done and downright pretty.

Assassins Creed Franchise is on sale in Steam this weekend, so if you want to check those out, now is the time to buy.

I am waiting for Max Payne 3 to come out on PC, as I have literally not touched my Xbox 360 in years. If you have opinions or thoughts, Post 'em up! Listening to the Bombcast talk about it, it's way different than the first two. Lookin' forward to it.

Kerbal Space Program. Anachronda had been talking about it since we started the Gaming Threads. I started futzing about with it a few weeks back, and I must say it's really cool. I'm already a fan of Internet Space Ships, so this was right up my alley. Only it's hard as hell lol. Also up my alley. The game is amazing. It is quite the physics/spaceship simulator. It made me go back to my physics past and really start mathing it out. Now you don't have to do that, they have a Community that can help you out with tables and all sorts of things. I have managed to orbit Kearth (or whatever it is called, I don't feel like looking it up), Breaking orbit and being captured by the Mun and establishing an orbit, Decelling on the Mun and crashing like a boss. I haven't done any mods, so I felt pretty proud of myself. Check the game out. It's a fun little simulator. Maddening...Yet Fun. I haven't done the more advanced stuff, but it's pretty cool. Check it out if you like flight sims.

Eve Wise. Not much besides the Tech "Wars". Everyone is Playing Diablo 3 and waiting for the Inferno Expansion to drop on May 22nd. I will say it's nice to have a break. I was looking back at my Corp history and I went over 6 months in Null last week, and it's been a crazy crazy six months. Deployments, wars, moving to new space. More War. We'll see what the expansion brings, and then how everyone reacts to the changes.
And yes. CCP Guard is a Midget (lol)

Hey all, Lemmenkainen here.

I too have been playing Diablo 3 this week, and it's good. I was really unhappy that I couldn't play my single player game due to Blizz's server problems earlier this week, but I suppose that's one way to prevent game pirating.

I also picked up the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft this week for 1600 Microsoft points ($20) and have been playing it with my two sons all week. They're 6 and 10 years old and they both love the game.

For those who aren't familiar with Minecraft, it's a sandbox type building game developed by a small group of guys in Sweden called Mojang. The game has pretty low rez graphics but it's a load of fun to play.

You gather resources and build stuff, while dodging zombies, creepers (frak creepers man!) and skeletons. There is no goal, no quests, no leveling, and it's surprisingly fun.

The game is available for PC, iOS, Android, and Xbox 360. The 360 version that I've been playing has 4 player splitscreen as long as you have an HD TV. There is a demo download on Xbox if you want to check it out.

Here's a fan made trailer:

SilverGTP here, good afternoon Morons and Moronettes. I don't have much this week because I'm not into Minecraft or Diablo but what I do have is totally awesome.

Check out this cool hack of the original Frogger game. It's called 5th Avenue Frogger and it uses real-time traffic data to represent actual cars on 5th Ave. It's probably more difficult than the original Frogger because actual drivers are more chaotic than NPC drivers.

Here's an interesting article entitled "How to Use Gamification for Better Business Results". It's a bit dry and boring but the point is valid, that we've all been 'gamified', whether or not we actually play games. Naturally, gamers have an advantage when using gamified markets.

Here's a short documentary-styled video about Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 featuring Oliver North:

Finally, here's an article from PopSci about the most violent videogame the author has ever seen. He's talking about Sniper Elite V2, and yes it is violent but not the most violent game I've ever seen. You be the judge:

I might just have to buy that one, even though I'm not very good at sniping. I'm more of a run and gun while throwing grenades kind of gamer.

Have a great week, and as always you can find me on Twitter.
