Evenin', 'rons and 'ronettes. It's a little bit of a grab-bag tonight, but let's do this thing!

Massachusetts honored its oldest living veteran, 104 year-old Irene Davey, today. She and her husband joined up together on the same day in '43 to serve in the big one. From an older interview:

"'Release a man to help your man' was a common motto of the time," Davey said from her Brown Street home. "What it meant was if a woman could take a man's job, that man was released to join the armed forces. That made the armed forces stronger, helping your man who was in the armed forces be that much safer."

That piece came a day late for the 67th anniversary of V-E Day, which I should've given a nod to in last night's post. You ask for an "exit strategy"? Complete and total victory seems to work just fine.

Oh, hell no. He couldn't be content to do what millions of men the world over have done since time immemorial and go to the damned jewelry store and/or pawn shop. Thanks for ruining it for the rest of us, buddy.

Discovery's Oprah Problem

From its 2008 inception through Dec. 31, OWN may have lost as much as $330 million, based on Discovery’s annual 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Don't worry about poor Oprah, though. Like her buddy Obama, she loses other people's money when she makes "investments".

From the AoSHQ trading desk: The last few days have shown why the first hour after the stock market opens is called "amateur hour".

And last, also via rdbrewer, is a video of using induction heating to melt a little cylinder of metal. It's kind of neat and also a good demonstration of the Wadsworth Constant, "an axiom which states that the first 30% of any video can be skipped because it contains no worthwhile or interesting information."
