Sunday Morning Book Thread 05-06-2012: Native Mode Edition [OregonMuse]
Good morning, morons and moronettes. I'm sure you all will be pleased to know that earlier this week, I found a video that I think really captures both the authenticity and richness of Elizabeth Warren's Native American heritage:
It's hilarious that there are other versions of this video on youtube with "improved" or "remastered" audio. Like that's going to improve it.
Moron George Milonas has a book out called The Warrior of God that I might have to read. The Amazon blurb calls it "a religious epic about the ultimate battle between good and evil...the central novelty is The Warrior of God's clever conversion of biblical entities into modern superheroes and villains".
You can get the Kindle edition for $1.99.
I have a Nook, and it works well, but books like this one makes me think that maybe I should've bought a Kindle, which seemingly has tons more stuff available for it. Sometimes when I'm feeling surly and petulant, I wish we lived in a "progressive" economy, where, instead of having to allocate scarce resources, commodities such as housing, medical care, transportation, Kindle Fires, Sandra Fluke's birth control, etc. exist in unlimited quantities and are mine by right, and the only reason I don't have them is that evil people (mainly conservatives) are deliberately preventing me from getting them.
I guess all this is a very roundabout way of saying I'm a cheap bastard, and you should all be made to pay for my stuff. No, seriously, but sometimes I do wish I'd have bought a Kindle.
I'm still in Book 2 of the dragon tattoo series, about a third of the way through, and it's actually getting to be more interesting than the first one. It's slow going because I do most of my reading in bed at night just before lights out. I keep my Nook and a goodly number of real books on a shelf at the head of our bed. Mrs. Muse also has books on her side and also her crossword puzzle dictionaries. Due to the lateness of the hour, I usually can only read 1-2 chapters of whatever book I'm in, plus I have a book of chess problems and I work a few of those each night to keep me tactically sharp. Or, at least, less dull.
As always, book thread tips may be sent to aoshqbookthread@gmail.com
So, enough about me. What has everyone else been reading this week? Something good, I hope.
